How to Defeat the Devil
Revelation 12:1-11
Here is a picture of spiritual warfare, Satan is hurled down to the earth. The Bible says that Satan is
here. He is on the warpath. You and I are the focus of his fury. He is as a roaring lion look seeking
whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8)!
So, how can you and I stand firm against the devil and his wiles? The key to defeating the devil is
recorded in the Bible at Revelation 12:11.
1. THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB.
They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb. You must have the blood of the Lamb to defeat the
devil. If you are not in Christ, then all the good works and self-sacrifice will not secure you the
victory.
2. THE WORD OF TESTIMONY.
a. Jesus overcame Satan by the word of God. In Ephesians 6, the only offensive weapon in the
Christian soldier’s armor is the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. How foolish it would be
to enter a battle without a weapon. You win every battle of Satan by taking the Sword out of its
sheath. Quoting scripture, sharing your faith—the word of your testimony will help you defeat the
devil. ----- I once read that during the Korean War, a group of believers were in a little chapel when
communist soldiers barged in with machine guns. One of the soldiers said, "Everybody, get up!" So
they got off their knees. He said, "Line up against the wall!" They did. Then that soldier ripped a
picture of Christ off the wall and threw it down on the floor. He said, "Everyone come by here, spit
on this picture, and curse His name." The first three in line were men of the church. They obeyed
the soldier’s blasphemous command. The fourth one in line was a young girl. She came up before
the picture and she dropped to her knees. She wiped the spittle off with her skirt and she said, "Go
ahead and kill me. I cannot curse His name." The soldier said, "Get up!" They blindfolded that girl
and the three men, and marched them out behind the chapel. The people inside heard three shots.
The soldiers came back in with the girl --alive. “Anyone who gives up what they believe that easily
is not fit to be a communist," the ring-leader said. And they marched out.
Here is a case where a woman was actually saved by the word of her testimony. If you want to
defeat the devil, you must exercise your faith and share it, both by word and by deed.
3. WILLING TO DIE FOR THE LORD
Not only be willing to live for the Lord.... But be willing to die for the Lord!
The Bible says "Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to
you" (James. 4:7-8). The only way one can resist the devil is to draw near to God! We must "Put on
the whole armor of God, that [we] may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil" (Ephesians
6:11).
4. THINK RIGHT (Phil. 4:8) -- Pr. 23:7 - As a man thinketh so is he.....
Phil. 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengten me -- I Jn. 4:4 - Greater is he that is
in me, than he that is in the world. --- Be Optimistic -- God is going to win!
5. LOOK RIGHT (Heb. 12:2 - Looking unto Jesus....)
We defeat the devil by keeping our eyes on Jesus and not other people!
6. HEAR RIGHT (Rom. 10:17 - Faith cometh by hearing....) We hear many sounds... Music, TV,
Conversation.... We should strive to hear God’s Voice!
7. TALK RIGHT (Ja. 1:26 ....) The devil gains many victorys when we misuse our tongues!
Let our speech be unto edifying! -- Eph. 4:30,31 - Says we grieve the Holy Spirit by using our
tongue wrongly!
