Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
The helmet protects the head, In our spiritual warfare the head of the believer does not speak of his brain but rather the mind or understanding – (For as a man thinketh so is he).
The helmet of salvation speaks of being established in the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ, not simply an acceptance but an appreciation.
2 Co 5:21 For He hath made him to be sin for us who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
1 Pet 1:18-19 For as much as ye know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold from your vain conversations received by tradition from your fathers but with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Salvation is an all inclusive word, When we speak of salvation we are making reference to everything that Jesus has brought to us and made available through his redemptive work.
To have on the helmet of salvation means: We face each battle knowing that Christ has already defeated Satan.
To have on the helmet of salvation actually means to put on our salvation
In other words (To put on the Lord Jesus Christ)
Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;
Psa 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Exo 15:2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
Psa 118:21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.
We take the helmet of salvation by accepting What Jesus has done for us, but we wear the helmet efficiently and affectively by Renewing our minds according to the Word of God.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Salvation from sin is enough to prepare you for heaven, but in order to fight the good fight of faith and destroy the works of the devil you must have your mind renewed by the word of God.
This is why the scripture places these two elements so close together: (The helmet of salvation and the word of God).
Contrary to the opinions of many: salvation is a progressive work.
Although the spirit is instantly transformed and born into a new creation (Your Soul is going through a process of salvation).
(Soul)= Mind, Will, Emotions,
This process is accomplished by the renewing of our minds
As our minds are renewed to the Word of God, We make the changes in our lives in obedience to his word, and these changes produce a salvation or deliverance from the will of the flesh, the mind, and the emotions.
Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Psalms 34:22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
Notice that the soul has the potential to prosper and that God really has made the other blessings contingent upon the prosperity of the soul/ : That is to say that Gods primary target is the renewing of the entire man into the image of his own son.
Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
It is not our flesh that is being changed, and it is not our spirit that is being changed: It is the soul
Here we find the real meaning of taking the helmet of salvation.
It is first of all putting off the old man (The old ways of thinking and reacting) and putting on the new man = (Accepting Gods thoughts as better than ours and changing our lives in accordance).
In as much as we refuse to change as required by the word, To that same degree our head is uncovered and vulnerable to Satan’s attacks (Mentally, emotionally, spiritually or physically).
Take the helmet of salvation (this is spoken not to the sinner but to the saint who desires to be fully equipped for the battle).
This takes effort on our part
