WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY

I. INTRODUCTION
The Book of Revelation was written on Sunday. The writer John said, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a great voice, as a trumpet” (1:10). The Apostle John becomes our example of what to do on Sunday. We can identify with him and apply to our life some of the things that he did. Note the four-fold outline:
1. I hear the Word of Christ (v. 10)
2. I see the wonder of Christ (v. 12)
3. I experience the work of Christ (v. 17)
4. I yield to the will of Christ (v. 9).
A. I hear the Word of Christ.
“I heard behind me a great voice, as a trumpet, Saying I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last” (v. 10, 11).
1. Attend church where the Word is preached.
2. Fellowship with Christians to get the Word of Christ in fellowship.
3. Spend extra time praying (during work days can’t have extra time to pray) to get the Word of Christ in communion.
4. Attend Sunday School to study the Word of Christ.
B. I Experience the wonder of Christ.
1. John saw the glorified Christ-“I turned to see the voice that spake with me and being turned, I saw . . . in the midst of seven golden candlesticks one likened unto the Son of Man” (v. 12, 13).
a. “Clothed with a garment down to his foot, and gird about the paps with a golden girdle”--this means righteousness.
b. “His head and His hairs were white like wool”--
this means holiness.
c. “His eyes were aflame like fire”--this means judgment.
d. “He had in His right hand seven stars”--this means authority over the churches.
e. “Out of His mouth as a two-edge sword”--this means the power of the Word of God.
f. “His countenance was as the sun shining in His strength”--this means His energy and life-giving nurture.
2. Application for Sunday
a. On Sunday we should see Christ clearer, than we do when working, or performing family duties.
b. On Sunday we should have closer communion with Christ, than on weekdays. John was closer in fellowship with Christ on Sunday than any other time.
c. On Sunday we should let Him give us directions on what to do the rest of the week. John waited for Christ to give Him direction and purpose.
C. I Experience the work of Christ.
1. “I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me saying unto me, fear not: I am the first and the last” (v. 17).
a. Conviction-“I fell at His feet.” When we see Jesus Christ we are convicted. The word convict from the Latin root means “to see.” When we see Christ, we become convicted of our sin and we want to repent and change our ways.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE ARE CONVICTED?
1. Weep.
2. Feel remorse.
3. Bow at an altar.
4. Repent.
5. Fall at the feet of Jesus and surrender.
b. Restoration- “He laid His right hand upon me.” First we see Jesus and second we are convicted. Third we turn in repentance. The Lord always comes to us and restore us when we meet His conditions.
c. Dedication-Because of John’s repentance, the Lord said, “Write the things that thou has seen, and the things which are and the things that shall be hereafter” (v. 19). After we meet the Lord and are restored to fellowship with Him, God puts us to work because we met Jesus Christ.
d. Illumination--Because he spent his Sunday properly, God revealed the future to John. God explained to John the mystery of the seven candlesticks and the seven stars that were in his hands. When we spend time with the Lord, He explains what He is doing in our life.
D. I Yield to the will of Christ.
1. John came to a situation in life where he had to yield to Jesus Christ. He began this letter, “I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ” (v. 1:9).
2. John came to a physical location where he had to yield to his location. Even though he was on a desert island as a political prisoner, John realized that he was in the center of God’s will.
3. John came to a time when he had to yield to the will of God. It was the Lord’s Day, yet he was willing to do what God told him to do on that day.
4. John came to a spiritual experience where he had to completely yield himself. John said, “I fell at His feet as dead” (v. 1:17).
E. Review
I heard
I turned
I saw
I fell.

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins on the cross, and rose again the third day. I repent of my sins. By faith I receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior. You promised to save me, and I believe You, because You are God and cannot lie. I believe right now that the Lord Jesus is my personal Savior, and that all my sins are forgiven through His precious blood. I thank You, dear Lord, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
