TITLE-THE GOD OF PROVISION- "JEHOVAH JIREH"
SCRIPTURE READING-GEN. CHAP. 22 V. 1-14
Genesis 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, [here] I [am].
Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only [son] Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
COMMENT
Has God ever required of you something that was extremely precious or meaningful?
Here in this passage of scripture, God was not asking or requesting, but rather God ordered abraham to offer his only son that he loved, as a sacrifice upon the altar of God.
This sounds like too much to ask somone to do doesn’t it?
But that’s exactly what God did for us on the cross of calvary. He provided the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, his only begotten son, as a perfect, spotless, sinless lamb for the sin of this whole world.
John said it like this: John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Comment
Christ became the sin bearer (propitiation), that we might have our sins forgiven.
God will never ask you and I to do something he wouldn’t or hasn’t done. He gave us his very best, we musn’t give him anything less than our very best.
Scripture
Genesis 22:3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
Comment
Abraham didn’t mess around,or linger once God had told him what he wanted him to do. He rose up early, the bible says, and started the journey to the land of moriah.
Scripture
Genesis 22:4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
Genesis 22:5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
Comment
Wow what faith!!! Abraham didn’t argue with God nor did he question God’s orders. He just obeyed!!! (WE COULD LEARN A LOT FROM ABRAHAM).
He told the young men that he and his son were going to worship, and that they would be back. Abraham didn’t tell the time of their return, he just said we will be back, and to wait there until they returned.
(This is faith in it’s purest form). He realized that if he followed the orders of God that everything would be alright. He knew that if Issac was slain that his God(JEHOVAH-JIREH), would raise him back up again, even from the dead. He put his trust ,not in man, but rather in his God, even when the situation looked grim.
What about us? Do we trust God at all times and in all things? What does the Bible tell us to do in times such as these?
Scripture
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Genesis 22:6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid [it] upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
TEXT-GEN. CHAP. 22 V. 7,8
Genesis 22:7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here [am] I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where [is] the lamb for a burnt offering?
Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
Introduction
Abraham knew God as "Jehovah Jireh"and knew God would provide the sacrifice. God will provide whatever you have need of. Physical, spiritual, financial, or emotional, God has the means to provide that which is needed.
Scripture
Genesis 22:9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
Genesis 22:10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
Comment
This is testing time for Abrahams faith. Would he really go through with what God was requiring of him? He had the knife in his hand. Would he follow through or would he hesitate?
Just as Abrahams faith was being tested, God will test our faith also. Before there can ever be a testimony there must come the test. Have you been tested lately? If so, Have you passed the test? In other words have you kept the faith?
Scripture
Genesis 22:11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here [am] I.
Genesis 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son] from me.
Genesis 22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind [him] a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah jireh: as it is said [to] this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Transition
FROM THE VERY BEGINNING OF CREATION
GOD HAS DESIRED TO MAKE PROVISION FOR MAN.
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Genesis 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein [there is] life, [I have given] every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Comment
God is a good God. God saw what he had created and called it good. So what happend? Three letters tells us what the problem was, SIN.
Romans 5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience(Adam), many were made sinners (you and I), so by the obedience of one (Jesus Christ) shall many ,(whosoever or all) be made righteous.
Comment
God provided the price for sin. And that is the PRESCIOUS blood of his ONLY son, Jesus Christ.
Scripture
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged (cleansed) with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission (forgiveness).
Scripture
Deuteronomy 2:7 For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God [hath been] with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
GOD GAVE MANNA-ANGEL FOOD CAKE
GOD GAVE WATER OUT OF A ROCK.
GOD GAVE THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL QUAIL-MEAT TO EAT.
GOD PROVIDED TIME AND TIME AGAIN, AND STILL THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, MURMERED, COMPLAINED, AND DOUBTED THAT GOD WOULD OR COULD SUPPLY THEIR NEEDS.
Comment
Does the above comments sound like anyone you know? How many times has God provided for us time and time again and yet sometimes we doubt and our faith is weak, because we dont get the answer to our prayers fast enough. Have you ever Questioned God and asked Why? When? How?
Scripture
Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD [is] good: blessed [is] the man [that] trusteth in him.
Psalm 34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for [there is] no want to them that fear him.
Psalm 34:10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good [thing].
Psalm 34:11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Matthew 7:8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Comment
God know’s what we have need of, but he want’s us to tell him about it in prayer. One scripture says we have not because we ask not. Let’s start doing some asking!!!
Scripture
Psalm 34:17 [The righteous] cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
Matthew 7:9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Matthew 7:10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Comment
God makes a comparison of a Father and son’s relationship. God is our Abba father (heavenly father) and we are his children. God is saying if your earthly father gives good gift’s to his children, then how much more shall our heavenly father give good gift’s, if we come and ask of him.
CLOSING-Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:20 Now unto God and our Father [be] glory for ever and ever. Amen.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TODAY? "JEHOVAH-JIREH WILL PROVIDE IT.
LETS TALK TO THE LORD ABOUT IT.
GOD IS JEHOVAH-JIREH, THE GOD OF PROVISION, AND HAS NOT NOR WILL NOT FAIL YOU NOW.
Closing Scriptures and Comments
Matthew 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Comment
Realize God knows all things that you have need of before you even ask. He’s an awesome God that will come through for you again like he has in times past.
Scripture
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
