Mark 5:21 ¶ When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered round him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet 23 and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live." 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him.…
35 While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. "Your daughter is dead," they said. "Why bother the teacher any more?" 36 Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, "Don’t be afraid; just believe." 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, "Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep." 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!"). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.
God is still the same as He has always been it is our approach to Him that has changed.
1.) God is still the same as He has always been. (Jam 1:17, Heb 13:8)
2.) Whatever your need, Everything is possible!!! (Mk 9:23, 11:23-24) “Everything is possible…who believes”
3.) Some ask where then is His power? (Isa 59:1-2)
4.) Though God has not changed, our approach to Him has.
5.) Men are still basically the same, we all have needs.
This morning I want us to trace the steps Jairus took in getting his need met from Jesus.
1- Inventory Your Need. [Jairus was losing his daughter]
1. How great is your need. [Think of what you have lost! Pressure causes change!!!]
2. Get a sense of urgency.
3. Find the excitement of possibility.
2- Come To Jesus Personally.
1. He went to the right person for help.
2. He came to Jesus personally. [Our age “Get someone else to do it”]
3. I have come to hate people having others give their excuses!!!
4. No pastor, parent or friend can do this for you!!!
3- Humble Yourself In Jesus’ Presence.
1. We will not be accepted if we are arrogant!!! [Be afraid of this]
2. “Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess” (Rom 14:11)
3. We need to get a realization of our condition. (Isa 6, Rom 3:23)
4. We have missed it and being religious just is not good enough.
4- PRAY! “Pleaded earnestly”. [Besought = ask or pray]
1. Realization of the magnitude of our need will bring true prayer.
2. Prayer is one of God’s means of communication. (Mt 7:7)
3. This would include confession of sin and repentance!
4. Prayer really does change things.
5- Finally, Exercised Great Faith.
1. There is no substitute for faith. (Heb 11:6)
2. It opens the door to the impossible. (Mk 9:23, 11:23-24) “Everything is possible to him who believes”
3. True faith is trusting God.
4. He will keep all of His promises!
The Bible says that God is not a respecter of persons. (Rom. 2:11)
