YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED AT
WHAT GOD COULD DO FOR YOU
Text: Ephesians 3:20-21
"Now unto him that is able to do exceedingly abun-
dantly above all we ask or think, according to
the power that worketh in us,
Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus
throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."
Introduction-
Our God is a God with whom all things are
possible. If He wills it, it will happen. He
is able to do far more for us than most of us
can even imagine. He is
Omniscient-(all knowing)
Omnipresent-(everywhere present)
& Omnipotent-(all powerful)
Therefore, what He wills will come to pass. No
power exists that can keep it from happening.
His will is consistent with His nature and char-
acter, and it will never contradict His Word.
This truth was brought home to me recently at
a local restaurant, when as a group of ministers
we were meeting to listen to Dr. Van Horn teach
the January Bible Study. This took place in
Brookhaven, Mississippi, where I live. As I
listened to Dr. Van Horn, God began to enrich my
soul and feed me from His Word. He was teaching
the book of Genesis, and as my mind wandered, I
thought of the little boy who came to Jesus with
the five loaves and two fishes. D.L. Moody once
said-"God creates out of nothing; therefore, until
a man is nothing, God can make nothing out of him."
What the Lord impressed upon my mind was what
He can do with little, or nothing. The disciples
rebuked Jesus when He commanded them to bring the
fish and loaves to Him, and asked-"What are these
among so many?" With Jesus, it was enough, and
more than enough, because He fed the multitudes,
and there were twelve baskets left over above and
beyond what they needed! I was overwhelmed at
the greatness of God. He is able to do exceeding-
ly abundantly above all that we ask or think! It
was true with the disciples, and it is true with
us. If Jesus could take a meager amount of food,
and feed the multitudes with it, adding his bless-
ing, what could He do through us! 5,000 men, be-
sides women and children, sat down and all ate
until their hunger was completely satisfied, with
much left over. All from 5 loaves and 2 fishes!
WHEN THE LIVING GOD PUTS HIS HAND ON SOMETHING,
OR SOMEONE, MIRACLES HAPPEN!
Like the hymn writer, I say, "I stand amazed
in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene!" What
love! What power! What grace!
Now, I want to mention a few of the things
that the Bible says God is willing and able to
do for you.
I.First, GOD COULD & WILL SAVE YOU TO THE UTTERMOST-
Hebrews 7:25
"Wherefore, He is able also to save them to the
uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He
ever liveth to make intercession for them."
Our High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ, will never
die, or cease to do His priestly work on our be-
half.
When God does something, He does it thoroughly
and completely. He doesn’t half-way save, or
half-way heal, or half-way meet our needs, no,
He supplies all our needs throught His riches
in Christ. He heals completely, and permanently.
Never did Jesus heal anyone and the sickness come
back on them, as some false "faith healers" teach.
He saves eternally, once for always, and for all
time and beyond the ages of ages.
II.Secondly, GOD COULD & WILL KEEP YOU FROM FALLING.
Not only does God do a complete work in saving
us, He also does a complete work in our sancti-
fication. He that has begun a good work in us
will complete it. He doesn’t waste His grace.
He will never regret that He saved anyone. He
will keep all those who are His until their
final redemption and glorification in Heaven.
We will not loose our salvation, for God is our
Keeper. He will not allow us to completely fall
out of His grace.
Psalm 37:23-"The steps of a good man are ordered
by the Lord; and He delighteth in his way, vs. 24-
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast
down: for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand."
III.Thirdly, GOD COULD AND WILL AID YOU IN TIMES OF
TEMPTATION
Hebrews 2:18-"For in that He Himself hath suffered
being tempted, he is able to succor them that are
tempted."
Jesus faced the same temptations that we do-the
lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of life, yet, He never yielded to temptation
and became a sinner. He was "holy, harmless, un-
defiled, seperate from sinners."
Because Jesus understands our trials and tempt-
ations, He is able to comfort us, and strengthen
us in our weakest moments.
There are many other points that we could make
in this sermon, but this suffices to let you
know that God is able to do for you what you
stand in need of Him doing. He is our Suffici-
ency. We can do all things through Christ,
who strengthens us.
Inviation-I encourage you to open your heart
and life to God today, and let the Lord Jesus
Christ work a miracle in your life right now
as we stand and sing. You may be thinking that
your case is different, that God can’t help you.
But, His hand is not shortened that it cannot
save, and He can and will meet your need today
if you will but trust Him.
