:6—“When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, covered himself with sackcloth, & sat on the ashes.
:7—“And he issued a proclamation & it said, “In Nineveh by the decree of the king & his nobles:...”
Rom. 13:1-4—“Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, & those which exist are established by God. Therefore he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; & they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, & you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil.”

:7—“....by the decree of the king & his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water.
:8—“But both man & beast must be covered with sackcloth; & let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way & from the violence which is in his hands.”

“Who knows, God may turn & relent, & withdraw His burning anger so that we shall not perish?”

“When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.”
God’s desire to relent & save Nineveh all along...For Nineveh’s release from the bondage of sin.

Ezek. 18:32—“For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies,” declares the Lord GOD. “Therefore, repent and live.”
1Pet. 4:1-2—“Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.”
