Scriptures On Salvation

John 6:47

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

John 6:47

a [believeth on me] This expresses an act and a continued process. It could not be that one act of faith and no more will save the soul (Luke 8:13; 1 Tim. 1:19; 1 Tim. 4:1; 1 Tim. 5:8,12; 1 Tim. 6:12,21; 2 Tim. 2:11-13; Hebrews 3:6,12-14; Hebrews 4:11; Hebrews 10:23-38; Jude 1:5; Rev. 2:13). The faith that saves is an ever-present active one; it cannot cease and still produce results. Even God has faith in all He does (Romans 4:17; 1 Cor. 13:13). Believers live by the faith of the Son of God and must always live by faith (Romans 1:17; Galatians 2:20; Hebrews 10:23-38). See note, §John 3:15.

John 3:15

a [That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life] Stating the reason for the crucifixion (John 3:15-17,36; John 5:24).

b [everlasting life] See note, §John 6:27.

John 6:27

a [Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life ...] Twenty-three conditions of eternal life:

1. Come to Christ (John 6:37,44,45,65).

2. Eat His flesh—drink His blood (John 6:50,51,53,58).

3. Labor (John 6:27).

4. Reap—win souls (John 4:35-38).

5. Hate (love less) the life in this world (John 12:25).

6. Know God and Christ (John 17:2-3).

7. Enter right gate (Matthew 7:13-14).

8. Cause no offense (Matthew 18:8-9).

9. Keep commandments (Matthew 19:17).

10. Forsake all (Matthew 19:27-29; Mark 10:28-30; Luke 18:28-30).

11. Live free from sin (Romans 5:21; Romans 6:16-23; Romans 8:1-13; Titus 2:11-14).

12. Continue in well-doing and seek eternal life (Romans 2:7).

13. Sow to the Spirit (Galatians 6:7-8).

14. Fight the good fight of faith; lay hold on it (1 Tim. 6:12,19).

15. Be sober and hope to the end for it (Titus 1:2; Titus 3:7; 1 Peter 1:5,9,13 with Romans 8:24).

16. Endure temptations (James 1:12).

17. Let the promise of it remain in you and continue in God and Christ (1 John 2:24-25; 1 John 5:11-20).

18. Love everybody (1 John 3:14-15).

19. Keep yourself in the love of God, looking for eternal life (Jude 1:20-24).

20. Overcome sin (Rev. 2:7,11,17,26; Rev. 3:5,12,21)

21. Be faithful unto death (Rev. 2:10; Hebrews 12:14-15).

22. Believe and obey the gospel (John 3:15-19,36; John 4:14; John 5:24; John 6:40,47,54; 2 Cor. 5:17; Romans 1:5).

23. Be born again, hear Christ, and follow Him (John 3; John 10:27-29).

We get eternal life now and keep it forever if we meet the above conditions, but it does not become an unforfeitable eternal possession until we enter into it (Matthew 7:13; Matthew 18:8-9; Matthew 19:17; Romans 6:22); receive it (Romans 6:23; James 1:12; 1 Peter 1:13; Rev. 2:10); reap it (Galatians 6:7-8); and inherit it in the world to come (Matthew 19:27-29; Mark 10:28-30; Luke 18:28-30), and at the end of this life (Romans 6:22). See note, §John 3:16

John 14:6

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:6

a[I am] I am—Greek: ego (GSN-1473) eimi (GSN-1510), used twenty-one times in

John by Christ (John 4:26; John 6:35,48,51; John 8:12,18,24,28,58; John 10:7,9,11,14; John 11:25; John 13:19; John 14:6; John 15:1,5; John 18:5,8).

b[way]

Christ Is a Sevenfold Way

1.The only way to God (Matthew 7:14; John 10:1,7,9; John 14:6)

2.The way of escape (1 Cor. 10:13)

3.The way into the holiest (Hebrews 9:8-15; Hebrews 10:19-23)

4.The new and living way (Hebrews 10:20; Hebrews 5:9)

5.The way of truth (2 Peter 2:2)

6.The right way (2 Peter 2:15)

7.The way of righteousness (2 Peter 2:21; 1 Cor. 1:30)

c[truth] This word is used by Jesus in John 22 times and only 4 times by Him in the

other gospels. He is the truth of God that sets free (John 8:32-36; John 14:6). He is

the teacher and source of truth (Matthew 22:16; Mark 12:14; John 1:14,17).

d[life] This word is used 44 times in John and only 38 times in the other gospels. Christ is the source of eternal life. See note, §John 6:27.

e[no man cometh unto the Father, but by me] Acts 4:12; Ephes. 2:18.

Acts 16:30

And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:30

a [Sirs, what must I do to be saved?] Question 48. Next, §Acts 16:37. One of the most used texts of Scripture by soul winners (Acts 16:30-31).

Acts 16:31

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Acts 16:31

a [Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved] This is the simple way to get saved when one is under conviction of sin and as desperate as this man was. It is not a formal confession of a historical fact that is uttered here, but that kind of faith that will surrender all to God and believe with the heart the truth that is known (Romans 10:9-10). A formal mental acceptance of Jesus any place at anytime will not save the soul. It must be a genuine heartfelt transaction of repentance and faith (Ephes. 2:8-9; 1 John 1:9). It would be vain to ask a man to do this who was not willing and ready to do it and who had not been convicted of sin and knew his need. See Faith.

Faith

The word "believeth" denotes the act and process of faith. It comes from the Greek verb

pisteuo (GSN-4100) which occurs 248 times in the New Testament. This use of the

present tense indicates that faith must be continued in to receive its benefits (Acts 14:22; Ephes. 6:16; Col. 1:23; Col. 2:5-7; 1 Thes. 5:8; 1 Tim. 2:15; 1 Tim. 3:9; 1 Tim. 6:12; 2 Tim. 3:8; 2 Tim. 4:7; Titus 1:13; Hebrews 10:23-38; 2 Peter 1:5-10). It can be lost (Luke 8:13; 1 Tim. 1:19; 1 Tim. 4:1; 1 Tim. 5:8,12; 1 Tim. 6:10,21; 2 Tim. 2:18; 2 Tim. 3:8; Jude 1:3; Rev. 2:13). Faith means:

1.To be persuaded of (Romans 4:17-22; Romans 8:38-39; 2 Tim. 1:12)

2.Place confidence in (Ephes. 3:12; Phil. 1:6; Hebrews 3:6,12-14; Hebrews 10:35; 1

John 3:21; 1 John 5:14)

3.The substance or conviction of things hoped for, the assurance of things not seen

(Hebrews 10:19-38; Hebrews 11:1,6; Romans 4:17; Romans 8:24)

4.Absolute dependence upon and reliance in the Word of God and of Christ (Matthew

8:8-10; Matthew 15:28; Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:1-12:3)

5.Full surrender, yieldedness, and obedience to all known truth (Romans 1:5; Romans

16:26; Romans 6:11-23; James 2:14-26; 2 Cor. 10:4-7; Hebrews 11:6)

6.Trust wholly and unreservedly in the faithfulness of God (Matthew 6:25-34;

Matthew 12:21; Luke 12:28-31; Ephes. 1:13; 1 Tim. 4:11; 1 Tim. 6:17; 1 Cor. 10:13)

7.Give one’s self over to a new way of life (Romans 1:17; Romans 6:11-23; Romans

8:1-16; 2 Cor. 10:4-7; Galatians 5:16-26; Col. 3:5-10; Hebrews 12:1-15; Titus 2:11-

14; 1 John 1:7; 1 John 2:6; 1 John 3:8-10; 1 John 4:17; 1 John 5:1-5,18)

8.The attribute of God and restored faculty of man whereby both can bring into

existence things that are unseen (Romans 4:17; Galatians 5:22; Matthew 17:20;

Matthew 21:22; Mark 9:23; Mark 11:22-24; Luke 17:6; Hebrews 11)

9.The whole body of revealed truth (Luke 18:8; Jude 1:3; Romans 10:17; 1 Tim. 4:1,6;

1 Tim. 6:10; 2 Tim. 3:16-17)

10.Joyful faith in, and acceptance of Christ as the substitute for sin and our Savior

whereby one receives salvation (Mark 16:16; Acts 4:12; Acts 10:43; Romans 1:16;

Romans 3:24-31; Ephes. 2:8-9); access into grace (Romans 5:2); fulfillment of the

promises (Hebrews 6:12); the Holy Spirit (Galatians 3:14); righteousness (Romans 4; Romans 9:30,32; Romans 10:6; Phil. 3:9); sonship (Galatians 3:26); healing (James 5:14-16; 1 Peter 2:24); eternal life (John 3:15-18,36; John 5:24; John 6:47); and answers to every prayer (Matthew 7:7-11; Matthew 21:21; Mark 11:22-24; Luke

18:1-8; John 14:12-15; John 15:7,16).

b [and thy house] The whole house must believe and meet the same terms for all of it to be saved (Matthew 18:3; John 3:3,5).

Romans 5:8

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:23

a[wages] Greek: opsonion (GSN-3800), recompense, wages. Here; Luke 3:14; 1

Cor. 9:7; 2 Cor. 11:8. Divine justice is under obligation to give sinners their wages or

be in debt to them forever (Luke 12:5; Rev. 20:11-15).

b[gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ] Eternal life is a free gift (Romans

5:15-18; Ephes. 2:8-9; John 10:28). People merit hell, but not eternal life. Jesus

Christ alone procurred it and gives it freely to all who believe (John 3:16; John 6:27;

Romans 3:24).

Ephes. 2:8

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Sinner’s Prayer

Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus, I’m so sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived. I ask You for forgiveness and to cleanse me with Your blood from all unrighteousness. You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9, If we confess the Lord our God and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we shall be saved. Right now I confess Jesus Christ as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Him from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His word, right now I am saved. Thank You, Jesus, for dying for me and giving me eternal life. Amen.
