What does it mean to be a Christian?
Matt 16:24 - 27
KJV-- disciple. 3101 mathetes (math-ay-tes’); from 3129; a learner, i.e. pupil:
I - What does to mean to be a Christian?
A - To love God?
1 - many profess such
2 - their actions will either prove or deny this claim
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
B - To believe?
1 - again many profess such
2 - there actions don’t show true belief
I Jn 2:3-4 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in
him.
C - To know the Word?
2 Tim 4:3-4 Many know it and do not obey it
D - To be born again?..... Good question
Those born again were called Christians because people must have seen a Christ likeness.
Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that
a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the
disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
II - It means to pattern our lives after Jesus’
A - Abide in Christ and bear fruit
John 15:1-6 5
This not a suggestion it is a command
B - Keep His commands
REMEMBER - I Jn 2:3-4 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in
him.
1 - you must learn them to keep them
2 - you must learn to teach them!
C - Evangelize the world
Matt 28:19-20
go - teach - baptize
teaching to observe ’some’ things?? ......
ALL things!! all Jesus commanded
2 Cor 5:18-19
