ROAD TRIP!

(A song of degrees)

Psalm 130:1-5

INTRODUCTION

§ What do you like to do on road trips?

§ What are some of the things you’ve eaten?

§ What was your favorite destination?

§ What does your family do to keep from being bored in the car?

§ Is there a place your parents always take you?

o Do they let you “think” you have a choice, but all along you don’t?

o Would you be bored going to the same place every year?

There are only 15 songs of degrees recorded in the Bible. (Between Psalms 120 to 134)

“Song of Degrees” was a series of songs that Israelites sang on their way to attend the 7 mandatory feasts.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD Ps 121:1&2

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. Ps 122:1*

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Ps 133:1

HOW DO WE KNOW THAT GOD LOVES US?

I. HE “MARKS” MEN Psalm 130:2

A. Because He wants what’s best for us.

§ What is Mr. (person in congregation with the first name of Mark)life verse? Psalm 37:37

The word “mark” means to make obvious. Some people should have the letter "L" tattooed on their foreheads so that we would know right off that they are losers.

§ Why did God “mark” Cain after he killed Able? To protect him. Gen. 4:15

B God Wants Us To See What’s Going On Around Us

1 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Eph 5:15

o “Circumspectly” literally means as an acrobat

o He wants us to say, “There’s a loser, there’s a winner”

Ex 21:14, Ps 5:7, Ps 11:4

Is this a judgmental attitude? Yes

1 Cor 2:15, 1 Cor 5:3

If you had a thirteen year old daughter and one of the following people came to your house to take her to an event, which of the following would you most likely allow her to go with?

A. Police Officer B. Grim Reaper C. Biker D. Bill Clinton

We are not judging people, we just know that we want our loved ones to be protected.

2 Does God use circumspection when looking at our lives?

Ps 11:4, 1 Sam16:7

Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. Ps 32:2

Impute: Literally an accounting term. He will not put anything against your account!
