What is the meaning of blood on the door post and what does it stand for in our lives? Readers of the Bible will recognize four instances of great deliverance in the Bible:
a. When Joseph in Egypt delivered the members of his family or race from famine.
b. When blood was applied on the door-posts by the Israelites to prevent the angel of death from coming in.
c. The battle between the Philistines and the Israelites in which Goliath was disgraced.
d. When Samson killed a lot of Philistines with the jaw of an ass.
One thing is common in all the four and that is blood. In this message, we would be considering (b) above. Exodus 12:7-13 says, “And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord’s passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”
How was the land of Egypt smitten? Psalm 78:49 gives us an answer. It says, “He casts upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.” He sent evil angels to destroy them. But in Luke 4:18, Jesus came and made this wonderful declaration: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Jesus came to deliver you and I . Obadiah 17 says, “But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.” This means that without holiness and deliverance, there is no way the children of Jacob will ever posses their possessions. You are reading about the blood on the door post which represents what, in Acts 10:38, is called deliverance. Acts 10:38 says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Meaning that the devil is the oppressor and Jesus is the one able to break the yoke.
The battle of life comes to everyone on earth. No one is free from it. Some come across their battle early in life like, Brother Jacob in the Bible. Jacob started his battle right from the womb and the fight was so terrible that by the time Esau came out first, Jacob was holding his leg. We have other examples like that. I know of a sister, by the time she was conceived, her mother had a candle inside a bottle tied up somewhere to keep her from having miscarriage, and when she was about to give birth, the candle and the bottle were cut down. Long after her mother died, she started having problems and any time she prayed or someone prayed for her, a bottle would be seen. They did not understand what it meant until it was interpreted. Many battles started like that. That is why many people say, “I have prayed and I don’t know what is happening to me.” You don’t know what is happening because the battle started even before you were born. Then you want it to be over by two minutes prayer. It does not work like that.
Some people have been going to dead churches for 40 years and when they come to a living church and spend half an hour, they start complaining that nothing is happening. They forget that they have spent forty years to strengthen the problem that had been with them from the womb.
Many years ago, when I was in a church where we gave the powers of darkness a lot of headache, all the herbalists in that area folded up. Some ran away. One day, one of the wives of a herbalist came to our meeting and got born again. She went home and told her husband that she was leaving him. The man came to the church and said, “You people are doing your business and I am not disturbing you, therefore, release my wife.” I said, “I did not bring her here. She came to the church and gave her life to Jesus and decided that she would not be your third or fourth wife again.” The man said, “I will fight you.” I said, “Is it a physical fight?” He said no, that he would consult something inside his house and the thing would deal with me. I said, “That would be very nice, sir.” The sister said that she would not go back to that house again and that he could do whatever he wanted. He was shocked and said, “You small boys, where did you get this kind of power?” I told him there is no power anywhere apart from the Lord Jesus Christ. I also told him that the Bible says that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, on earth or under the earth, and that that included all witches, wizards and necromancers or whatever they are called. The man was amazed.
Many years ago too, a woman was going to a herbalist’s home for antenatal care. The herbalist billed her N 300 for delivery. On the day of her delivery, her husband was not at home, so she was rushed to the herbalist’s place by her neighbours. When they got there, the man refused to attend to her without a down payment of the N300.00 in spite of the fact that he was told that her husband was not around. The people who brought her ran around and were able to get N150. They gave it to the man and he chanted some incantations and the first baby came out while the second one did not. The man said, “Well, you paid for one. If you get the remaining N150, the other one will come out.” They ran around again, and by the time they got it, the woman was already at the point of death. He said his incantations again but the second baby did not come out. He told them that a higher power had intervened, that they should take the woman away. At that point, her husband arrived and decided to take her to her people. He reasoned that it was better for her to die in the presence of her people. On the way, there was a traffic hold-up and a woman who saw her in the car and recognised her came to ask what was wrong. Her husband explained everything to her and she discouraged him from taking her to her people. She advised him to take her to a prayer meeting which was taking place at her church that evening. The husband heeded her advice. By the time they got there, the prayer warriors were gathering to start their prayer. They were the serious type. They were not the type that befriend one another and when they pray nothing happens. By the time they said, “Father, in the name of Jesus,” the second baby came. However, there was problem with the foundation of one of the twins. Taiye, the first baby, was born in a herbalist’s place while Kehinde, the second one, was born in the church. Their lives can never be the same. Taiye had started his own problem right from the womb.
There was also the case of a certain woman who gave birth in an hospital and did not have money to pay the hospital bill. As was the custom with that hospital, they refused to discharge her. So, she designed a trick. She folded her baby with a wrapper, put her inside a bucket and put tissue paper on top. She carried the bucket and told the nurse that she was going to the toilet. The nurse did not know that the baby was inside the bucket. That was how she smuggled her baby out of the hospital. She might have thought that she was smart but the baby has started life as a debtor right from the cradle.
Others come across their battle at middle age while some come across theirs at old age. This is most unfortunate. Sometime ago, an old man of 75 and a woman of 70 were in the court seeking for divorce and the judge looked at them and asked, “How long have you been married?” They said, “45 years.” The judge further asked them why they wanted a divorce and they told him it was not his business that he should just go ahead and grant the divorce. Until many understand the ministry of deliverance or the ministry of the blood on the door post or what some people call the ministry of conflict, they will continue to suffer. Consider the following powerful statements:
1. There is nothing in life that we need to fear. We only need to understand things because fear comes from ignorance. Somebody said that every man’s mountain is ignorance.
2. God has decided to save us from defeat but not from trouble.
3. There is a fight and part of the fight is what brought us to the church. The Bible says, “They shall fight but they shall not prevail.” The enemy shall fight us but shall not prevail
4. Most of the time we underestimate God and ourselves and overestimate the enemy. The Bible does say, “Forever O Lord, your word is settled in heaven.” For example, if you have a terrible dream, as far as that dream is not settled in heaven, it is null and void. Whatever somebody may be saying about your life, as along as it is not according to the word of God which is settled in heaven, it will not work.
5. Ninety per cent of the bad things we think might happen to us, will never come to pass.
6. To draw from your spiritual bank account, you must be making regular deposits there. The reason many of us are being harassed in the dream is that we don’t keep much in that account. There is not enough of love, sacrificial giving, word of God, etc.
7. God is more interested in making us what we ought to be than what we would like to be. This is why God holds on to some things in our lives to make us grow better than we are doing now.
8. Many will suffer from the cradle to the grave unless they undergo deliverance and at least engage in the ministry of conflict. I have prayed for somebody who vomited a calabash. I have been at a prayer meeting where people vomited snakes. A certain woman gave the testimony of how she had problem over her delivery and after praying for an hour she first of all gave birth to some pieces of kola nuts before the baby. The kind of blessings prayer brings to us is beyond the dream of anybody. The power is not fully comprehendedby mankind.
9. Violence is required to disgrace, to drive out and to destroy all the powers oppressing us. That is why the Bible says, “Right from the time of John Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence and the violent takes it by force.” (Matthew 11:12) What the Bible means by the violent here is that you have to be fierce and dangerous in action. It means that you should act with great damaging force. It means that you have to do the unusual or that which is beyond necessary. This is why the Bible uses words like violent, strength, vigour, diligence and fervency. All these put together in the spirit will disgrace the powers of darkness. Holy violence is required to do what God wants you to do. You must get involved in contending for the faith. That is why the Bible says that the violent takes it by force.
If you are a history student you might have come across an interesting story about the Roman Army which went to war with England. The soldiers went to England by sea and as soon as they arrived, they set their ships ablaze to the amazement of the British soldiers. That means forward ever, and backward to their ship never. Immediately they did that, the British army knew that they were already defeated. That is what violence is all about and that is why the Bible describes us as soldiers. We are regarded as solders because we are supposed to engage in war in the ministry of conflict: And as soldiers, we are under a Captain or a Commander who is our Lord Jesus Christ. So, ice-cream prayer will not help you.
WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A TRUE CHRISTIAN SOLDIER?
1. A true soldier keeps off worldly entanglements. The Bible says, “No one that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this world.” (2 Timothy 2: 4).
2. A true soldier is trained to fit into the work he has been called for. That means that he has to wear the whole armour.
3. A true soldier must have his uniform. Our uniform is the Holy Spirit.
4. A true soldier is known by his habit, armour and weapons.
5. A true soldier fights both externally and internally.
6. A true soldier must be well-skilled, disciplined and know all the postures of war.
7. A true soldier must follow his leader.
8. A true soldier must be able to recognise the sound of his troop’s trumpet or alarm. When a command to arise and fight is given, he knows what to do.
9. A true soldier will jump up and start warfare anytime he is called upon to do so, while a wrong soldier will be snoring when there is a call to fight.
10. A true soldier must be courageous, bold and not dismayed by either threats or the strength of the enemy.
11. A true soldier must prepare himself for hardship and endure it.
12. A good soldier does not befriend the enemy because he knows that he could be stabbed at the back.
13. A true soldier will not turn his back on the enemy.
In our own case, our victory is sure. Our weapons are spiritual and our Captain is superior because He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He has the keys of the gate of hell. If somebody has threatened you and said that you have only two months to live, know that he does not have that key of death. The man who has the keys of death and hell is Jesus.
A sick man came to one of our meetings. Before then he had gone to England for treatment and the doctors, after their diagnoses and treatment, told him to go and put his house in order for in two months he would die. So, he cried to me and I told him it was not finished, in Jesus’ name, even though he did not believe in Jesus at that time. I prayed with him and a year later, he was still alive. He went back to his doctor in England just to pay him a visit. When the doctor saw him, he was dazed. “Are you still alive?” he asked in amazement. And the man said, “Yes, by the power in the blood of Jesus.” Our number may be small but our side is the stronger. Every revival of the enemy will work for our benefit. Close your eyes and pray like this: “Every revival of the enemy shall be for my benefit, in the name of Jesus.”
The popular question people ask these days is: WHO NEEDS DELIVERANCE?
I can give two answers:
1. Every black man needs it. The only black man that does not need it is probably the one who he and his ancestors were dropped from the moon and must also have been born again Christians. But if it is not like that then everyone needs one form of deliverance or the other. Many people need deliverance from the spirit of poverty. But the issue of deliverance is wrongly understood. Sometimes when you say, ‘deliverance,’ the first thing people think about is witches and wizards. But it is easier to deliver a witch than to deliver an adulterer. It is easier to deliver somebody possessed by familiar spirits than somebody who is a fornicator or who smokes or drinks alcohol. They are all victims of one form of spirit or the other. A man who gets angry and is reporting that somebody else is a witch is worse than the witch because of that anger. An angry person can do worse things than witches can do.
WHEN DO YOU NEED THE BLOOD ON THE DOORPOST?
1. When you find that all your efforts fail to achieve success.
2. When you are moving backward instead of forward.
3. When you discover that you have an unexplainable loss of memory.
4. When you are governed by powers contrary to your will. For example, if you regret your actions after taking them.
5.When you were rich but suddenly becomes poor.
6.When you are continually duped.
7. When you look at your life and it seems as if trials have refused to come to an end, while one problem is going, another one is coming.
9. When you find that you are a slave to sexual immorality; you want to get out of it but it seems impossible.
10. When you notice unnatural movements in your body.
11. When you have been going to church for many years and cannot get the baptism in the Holy Ghost. You may say; “I have Holy Spirit, after all I dream and see visions.” If you cannot pray in the Spirit or speak in tongues and claim that you have the baptism because you can dream and see visions, you are like an elephant without a trunk.
12. When you have horrible experiences in your dreams, so much so that you find it difficult to sleep.
13. If you have practised a non-Christian religion before.
14. When you are sexually confused. This means being involved in any form of sexual perversion. There are some men who don’t want women. They prefer men like themselves. You would be amazed to know that some of them are pastors.
15. If you have a sick tongue.
16. If you suffer from emotional disturbances. For example, you know that you break down at every small thing.
17. When you have a sickness that defies medical diagnosis and treatment.
18. When you are mentally confused, restless and hear strange voices.
19. When you are under the torment of the spirit of fear.
20. When you are operating under evil covenants and curses. Somebody who knows quite well that his parents got him from a river goddess and yet says he does not need deliverance is deceiving himself.
21. When you have unexplainable family breakdown.
22. When you cannot live a successful Christian life.
23. When you experience fruitless hardwork, inherited problems and failure at the edge of breakthroughs.
24. When you have ungodly soul ties.
It is so easy for these things to hide away respectably in people’s lives They hide inside the fashionable clothes you put on and when you pass, people will say, “Wonderful,” not knowing that right inside, something is seriously wrong with your life. Many people are also busy feeding them fat to fight them harder.
If you have gone through the normal channel of prayers, spiritual discipline, confession of the word of God, praise/worship and night vigils and victory is not coming, then you need to get involved in the ministry of conflict. That is, to declare war and fight against the problem.
When a person surrenders his life to Jesus, it spells a spiritual disaster to evil spirits. So if you are not born again, the best thing to do is to get born again now. This is because the presence of the Saviour in your life weakens evil spirits and makes them much easier to remove. The order the devil gives to his evil spirits is to make sure that they hold on to their captives at all costs. This they do with all fierceness and resistance because the first punishment they suffer if a captive slips through their fingers is demotion.
Many say that they have gone for deliverance many times and saw only a few changes. That may be true. Complete and true deliverance depends on the following:
a. The condition of your heart.
b. The level of your faith.
c. How deeply rooted and strong the evil spirit is. You don’t expect something that has stayed for 60 years in somebody’s life to leave immediately. No. They will fight. Some family strongholds have existed through generations.
d. Willingness to be free by the person involved. Sometime ago, I was praying for somebody and I commanded the evil spirit to get out, in the name of Jesus and the spirit said, “Sir, ask her whether she wants to be free, before you waste your time.” I said, “Sister, open your eyes. Do you really want to be free?” The sister said, “Sir, I only said that you should pray for health. I did not say that you should do deliverance.” I left her alone. If you want to keep your demon, you are free to do so. But those who want to be free shall be free.
Ninety-five per cent of women do not enjoy their marriages because they are involved in one evil covenant or the other. The demons in this environment have distributed anti-marriage demons into the lives of many women. So, you find a lot of unserious or bad husbands, husbands who die untimely deaths, polygamous men, contaminated children, very late marriages and marriages that are controlled by in-laws. Some of our women marry old men who treat them like children while some marry men younger than them who use them as punching bags everyday. This is a serious matter.
Deliverance and the ministry of conflicts are needed for us to possess our possessions. A certain man shared a testimony some years ago. He was an athlete. He said he went to a herbalist for charms that would enable him to win a gold medal. The herbalist said he should bring a live snake which he would use to make the charm. He told the herbalist that he cannot touch a dead snake not to talk of a live one. The herbalist said he could help him to get one as long as he could pay and he agreed. He did the charm for him. The idea was that a snake which only he could see, would be pursuing him as soon as he commenced to run a race. He used this method to win many games. But after he had forgotten about athletics, he noticed that something was moving about in his backbone. Nobody needed to tell him that it was the snake. Not seeing anything to pursue, the snake entered into his backbone. The process by which he succeeded in removing that snake was deliverance.
Those who have their virtues buried can only uproot them through deliverance. Those whose money has been put on trees, will need deliverance to remove them from there. All those who have been padlocked need deliverance to be free.
HOW TO GET COMPLETE DELIVERANCE
1. You must be saved: Salvation is important. By changing and surrendering all to Jesus, you are free from the strategy of the enemy.
2. Baptism and anointing of the Holy Spirit: When that anointing falls upon you, yokes get destroyed.
3. Through the word of God.
4. Through repentance.
5. Casting out evil spirit: By getting rid of demonic influences,demonic hindrances, demonic sicknesses and eliminating their strongholds by saying, “You so, so and so, depart, in the name of Jesus.”
6. By violent faith and confession.
7. By becoming mature in Christ.
8. Spiritual warfare: This is all about the ministry of conflicts which we have discussed.
WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD OF DELIVERANCE?
The best method of deliverance is praying through by yourself. If you depend on a particular man of God to be praying for you, when he is not around, you would suffer. Prayer in the name of Jesus has prevailed over powers in the water, earth, and in the heavenlies. It has prevailed over evil angels and scattered the kingdom of satan. Prayers have fetched blessings down from heaven. Prayer has raised the dead and stopped the mouths of lions. It has subdued kingdoms, opened prison doors and broken down the gates of brass.
Beloved, please, pray the following prayer points very well. Do not cooperate with the enemy.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Let my testimonies appear and let my failure disappear, in the name of Jesus.
2. I receive undefeated victory, in the name of Jesus.
3. Oh Lord, heal my wounds, in the name of Jesus.
4. Every satanic artillery against my life, be roasted, in the name of Jesus.
5. Every witchcraft gathering against my life, scatter by fire, in Jesus’ name.
6. Every destiny destroyer, fall down and die, in the name of Jesus.
7. Every household strongman, be unseated by the fire of God, in the name of Jesus.
8. Every witchcraft bird flying contrary to my blessing, fall down and die, in the name of Jesus.
9. Every agent of backwardness, release me, in the name of Jesus.
10. Every evil hidden throne installed against me, be overthrown, in the name of Jesus.
11. Every agent of disorder in my life, be scattered, in the name of Jesus.
12. Every power feeding my problems, fall down and die, in the name of Jesus.
13. I release myself from every curse working in my family line, in the name of Jesus.
