God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. 33 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
Intro Here once again we have the infamous Sadducees, who are the well respected governing body of religion ,men of much education and what is suppose to be wisdom. Well here they challenging Jesus who is God himself in a body of flesh, trying to trick Jesus into saying something that is going to discredit his whole ministry. In their motives to try to bring Jesus down they are so caught up in making him look bad that they failed to do their homework. Jesus promptly lets them know that " Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God."
otherwise saying you are making a mistakes because you donÂ’t know the Bible, and because you donÂ’t know the bible you have no even a clue to the power of God. This is true today with us we always want to challenge what is right or fair, we want to challenge our pastors, people in the church, and some of us just like the Sadducees and the Pharisees we often have the audacity to challenge God on what is right and what is not. We cannot say what is right and what is not without diving into the scriptures and meditating on them and letting God speak to us through them. Loving God is a great start but it is not enough, the Saducees and the Pharisees problem was not loving God they really took pride in their love of God, but through their ignorance of GodÂ’s word they found themselves enemies of the Almighty God himself in the form of Jesus. Yes start out by loving God and Loving Jesus but read the holy text book.

Our problem most of us is we mess up not knowing the Word of God
1. Short tempered-Proverbs 3:5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
2. Rob God- We could be robbing God and not know it and be cursed and cannot prosper and not know why - Malachi 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
3. We canÂ’t love God when we donÂ’t love our brethren- - 1 JOHN 4:20
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
4. We canÂ’t make good decisions concerning ourselves or others because
A. Jealous- We feel bad over someone elseÂ’s blessings when she should appreciate what we have
B. Proud- We take credit for things we shouldnÂ’t therefore getting on GodÂ’s bad side
C. Revengeful- want to get back at someone out of anger
D. Impatient- CanÂ’t wait on God
E. Worry- Letting our self fret over nothing
5. Lack wisdom- Proverb 1:7 Says that knowledge begins with deep seeded respect for God, We donÂ’t have a good grasp on eternal wisdom or heavenly understanding to handle situations rightly, we have a popular slogan going on now "W.W.J.D" ourselves "What Would Jesus Do" but we have to study the word to know what Jesus would.
6. Easily led astray. -In to false doctrine
7. Miss out on blessings because we donÂ’t know the proper procedures of GodÂ’s program
1. We cheat ourselves- financial blessings,
spiritual blessings-
physical blessings- Not all of us but some of us are suffering right now becuase of our ignorance of the scriptures some of us are going to suffer in the future for our ignorance today
mental security- Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3
2. We cheat our families- By not sharing and living by the word, we have family members who are not going to enjoy the fruits and pleasures of heaven because they have not seen us display biblical love, biblical knowledge and biblical principles
3. We cheat our friends- Of Good advice, enough scripture knowledge for them to completely believe, how many us had friends who had doubts , but were curious, but we didnÂ’t have enough biblical knowledge to help bring them to Jesus
4. We canÂ’t get a prayer through- There are certain things that hinder our prayers (like how we treat our spouses 1 Peter 3:7) and if we donÂ’t know them, when we pray for our family members, and friends we run the chance of ineffective prayers. DonÂ’t you know that friends and family when they see you go to church, you are suppose to be the expert on God , the expert on the bible how do you think people view you when you are asked questions about the bible and donÂ’t have an answer, or if you give an answer and they find out later you didnÂ’t know what you were talking about.
5. Cheat God- We donÂ’t just cheat God of money there are many ways to cheat God we donÂ’t know the scriptures we could cheat him of praise, reasonable service, being in his will, and being in a proper relationship
8. CanÂ’t spiritually grow- Suffer from the same mistakes in 2001 that we did in 1981
Second Movement: If we donÂ’t know the scriptures
Jesus was saying that they didnÂ’t study the word, they didnÂ’t become familiar with the word, their knowledge of GodÂ’s word was insufficient. The Bible is precious God took time to give us a written understanding of his perfect will the bible is GodÂ’s testimony, proof of his existence, he took time to put together a super intelligent plan of how the whole bible would integrate together, he skillfully maneuvered peoples lives, to follow a certain plan so we could learn about it, he destroyed millions of disobedient people in the bible so we could a record of example of what God wants.
We all should study the history of the bible, how no matter what happpened, the bible could not be stopped by man, the bible was handed down by word of mouth for thousands of years and stayed accurate,as evident by the findings of the dead sea scrolls, I could go to the back of the church right now tell a story to someone by the time it got to the front of the church it would totally be different.

People use to pay top dollar for one book of the bible because it was so hard to produce. And what was the first thing produced when Gutenberg invented the printing press,
The bible should be read at a rate of at least two chapters a day from Genesis 1 to Rev 22, then over and over again the scriptures are so multi demensional they have so many deeper truths that God slowly reveals deeper understanding through constant meditation and examination of the Word with the guidance of the Holy Spirit , give the Lord a chance, give your family a chance ,give yourself a chance.A major reason behind the explosion of population of MT. Olive, Pastor Gillison said that when people bought there own study bibles the word became personal to their hearts,in school I would pay 50 to 70 dollars for a text book for one class, isnÂ’t God worth 30-40 dollars for a book that will bring us an eternityÂ’s worth of riches, blessings, honor, joy and peace when you invest in a bible you have a certain pride about it, a certain attachment to the word, that is good become attached, become fond of the word, and watch it bless you. The bible says meditate on the word day and night Charles Stanley says grab yourself about three scriptures and recall them all day three I suggest are (Romans 8:31),( Romans 8:28),( Psalms 37:1),( Psalms 34:1)( Isaiah 26:3) meditate on what they really mean.
Third Movement: Power of God
Thirdly here is a deep statement because you donÂ’t know the full value, becasue you have not meditated over the scriptures enough, you have no idea the power of God. GodÂ’s power is too awesome to mention. How can we possibly know the power of God, his potency, his strength without knowing the word. How can we know what God is all about

We wonÂ’t know that he will make your enemies your footstool
We wonÂ’t know he is the source of our strength if we donÂ’t read
We wonÂ’t know that he is a healer
How he has single handedly destroyed whole cities
We wonÂ’t know of the power he has given us
Our faith cannot increase
God is unbeatable(Romans 8:31)What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
