What must I do 2 Kings 2: 1-15
Opening:
I have been praying for several spiritual gifts from God. These are things that only God can give, they are supernatural.
Many times in the past few weeks satan has questioned me hoping that I would doubt God and give up.
Several times I have been challenged by circumstances of my everyday life, tempting me to doubt God.
I found my self asking God, “ What must I do to receive”. The Lord led me to the book of II Kings and and there I found the answer to my question.
II Kings 2:1 - 15
1. I must be steadfast
2. I must desire spiritual things
3. I must be willing to change my garments
4. I must be willing, in faith, to use what God gives me.
1. I must be steadfast
Three Times Elijah told Elisha stay here while I go……
Elisha refused he made up his mind to be steadfast, he was determined to receive a double portion of Elijah’s mantle.
King Nebuchadnezzar had issued a decree that everyone in the kingdom must worship the golden image that he had created. The three Hebrew children refused. They told the king that God was able to deliver them, Dan 3:18, “ But if not, let it be know to you oh king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image that you have set up”.
1 cor 15:58, “ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
2. I must desire Spiritual things
Psalm 37:4, “ Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he shall give you the desires of your heart.”
Elisha was asking for something that only God could give. Elisha had a desire to serve God. He was asking God equip me for your service.
Psalm 119:131, “ I opened my mouth and panted, for I longed for your commandments.”
Elisha was not asking for riches or fame, he was asking to be closer to God. He was not asking for a great ministry he was asking for more of God.
3. I must be willing to change my garments.
Elisha threw off his cloak or outer garment and picked up Elijah’s.
2 cor, 5:17, “ Therefore is anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.”
Closing:
I ask you this question today, are you willing to give up your old life.
Are you willing to seek God for everything, even everyday choices.
Are you willing to invite Christ in your heart, in your home and hold nothing back from him.
Are you willing to wake up every morning and say God, guide me today, use me for your service.
You must be willing to use, what God gives you.
Elisha wasn’t afraid to use this gift.
He wasn’t afraid it wouldn’t work
He believed God and walked to the water, took off the cloak and threw it down just as he had seen Elijah do before God took him away. God was faithful and He parted the waters!
God has given all of us gifts, He wants us to use them, He wants us to have faith and depend on Him for everything that we do.
