For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,
who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things
that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead;
so that they are without excuse.
Romans 1:18-20
Wendy Kaminer, an avowed agnostic author, is typical of people who are uncomfortable with other people’s religious beliefs when she says:
"Something that greatly bothers me about public religiosity the mandate to worship.I don’t have a lot of respect for the view of God as some authority figure who wants you to come and kneel before Him every week."
Paul tells us how people and their culture are changed for the worse when they are characterized by wholesale:
Unrighteous living (18)
Ignoring God’s presence (19-20)
Refusing to honor God (21)
No worship
No thanks
Futile speculations
Darkened heart
Honor nature instead of God (22-23)
These are the steps that lead us to finding God’s wrath, not God’s help (1:24-32).
Romans 1:18-20
We must honor God.
1. Live in the Truth (1:18)
Show we trust God’s Words by our obedient actions
Following the truth brings godliness and righteousness
Refusing the truth brings rejection and wrath
2. Honor God (1:19-20)
Respect God’s ownership of our lives "creation of the world"(Our Creator)
Respect God’s power "eternal power" (Our Hope)
Respect God’s righteousness "Godhead" (Our Lord)
