Travelers in the Fog
A few days ago, I drove out of my driveway headed to work. It was about 6 AM and those of you who are up and about at that time of the morning will know that it is still dark outside. I immediately noticed that not only was it still dark but that there was also a thick fog.
I know that all of us have driven in fog before if you have driven for very long. Most of the time we just slow down and be a little more careful but other than that, the drive is usually as uneventful as ever.
But on this morning, I had not gone more than a mile down the road when God began to speak to my heart and reveal some things to me about our walk with him.
Everything I saw that morning seemed to speak to me about this message. It blessed me and taught me some things.
I want to share those insights with you tonight.
I Corinthians 13:2
For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
2 Peter 1:19
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.
The fog limits our vision.
Objects are not very clear. Shapes are there but the clarity of what they represent cannot be seen. We recognize the outline or the colors or the shape but we cannot see the details.
Golden arches of McDonalds recognized long before we can read the words on the sign.
There are many signs that we are familiar with are easily recognized even though they aren’t clearly visible.
Lessons for life
In the realm of the Spirit we can recognize the move of the Spirit of God but we can’t see God or His work clearly.
We recognize God’s handiwork, we see the shape of His love and mercy. We see the results of His power but we don’t see the Spirit as He is.
We see God in the love of our family, our church, in our own salvation, and yet, we really don’t see Him as He is in all His majesty.
As we travel, the fog obscures our view and caution must be observed. Most of the time we can only see a few feet ahead. We must travel on by faith, believing that the way is clear, that other people will drive safely, that all the safety precautions are in place.
We run up to a traffic light and suddenly the trip is interrupted by other people or by the light when it changes to red. Some people ignore the yellow light that signifies caution and to clear the area. Some people even continue on even when the light is clearly red because they are still half asleep. Some people travel too fast to stop even if they wanted to, throwing caution to the wind and ignoring the dangers. Some people travel so slow that they cause everyone else problems.
Life’s application
The just shall live by faith. We cannot see the future, we can’t even see tomorrow clearly, but we must travel on by faith. The speed at which we travel will determine how soon we reach our ultimate end and the goal that God has for us.
Too many times we travel through life ignoring the cautions that are placed in our path by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is always warning us of those things that are lacking in our walk with the Lord.
1.You need to study and pray more
2.You shouldn’t skip church to do that
3.You need to spend time with God and with your family
4.You need to proceed with extra caution for your adversary, the Devil, is out there waiting for you
Sometimes we are just going too fast to stop and listen for God’s voice. We get ahead of God’s timing because we are traveling headlong with our own agenda instead of searching what the will of god is in our lives.
Impatience drives us onward ever faster, ignoring the dangers. Remember that there are other people out there just like you and you will likely run into them quicker that way. Just as two people trying to pass through a foggy intersection at the same time, you can find yourself spiritually wrecked by the side of the road.
We travel along, paying little attention to our pathway, because we are experienced and know how to handle this by ourselves.
There are people who will try to stop you on your journey. They will turn their spiritual blinkers on and go on for a long time before they finally get out of the way. These folks have little commitment for God and the paths of righteousness and they love to get in your path to slow you down too.
Others will try to push you faster than safety permits. They won’t like the speed of your agenda. They want to move on, regardless of the consequences. These people often miss God and go off on some strange doctrine for long periods before finding the right road again, if they find it at all.
Even though you have been there before, you know the way, you know the destination and you know the map, you still must deal with the unknown factors.
Satan dwells in the darkness and fog and he doesn’t play fair. He is out to kill you.
Its like riding around in a very dense fog, with people all around you who are driving too fast, too slow, going the wrong way or not even watching the road ahead and, along with all this, the highway department has removed a traffic signal without warning or taken out a bridge with no signs.
Satan is in the earth going about trying to kill the occupants of every car.
He lays in wait until you come along unsuspecting of anything. He knows the places where you will be the least attentive. He searches and seeks for those who are half asleep. His sole purpose in life is go around in the dense fog and darkness of life and kill everyone he can, anyway that he can.
The fog gets a little clearer from time to time.
There are days when your plans are good, life is on the upside, you are on the mountaintop and it seems that you can see clearly for a long way down life’s road.
There are other days when the path ahead seems to be completely out of sight.
When we study the Word and know the map better, the road is easier to follow. When we know the Light of the World, Jesus, then the road ahead is illuminated better with His light.
When we are prepared for the battle and standing our watch, the devil has a harder time laying his traps and catching us.
There is a bright, clear day coming. The Day-Star is rising in your heart andHe is soon to come and take his children home. Then we will be in eternal day with no darkness and a clear vision. There will be peace, joy and happiness. We will have reached our final destination and no longer be on a journey in the fog of uncertainty.
Then we will know all things that we don’t know now and we will understand the journey and the significance of all that has happened. We will see the Lord just as He is. We will know our heart, and know His heart completely and all things will be made new and come into focus.
Are you walking in confusion?
Satan’s favorite trick is to get you off the road that God has laid before you. God’s way is a narrow road and a straight gate, and not many are on that road today. Any road that doesn’t follow the path that Jesus has laid out is the wrong road.
Jesus wants you to travel the narrow path and enter in through the strait gate. Jesus is the only way, there is no other.
Life is a perilous journey. Why walk it alone? We can only have the light if we walk in the LIGHT of the World.
Jesus is that light.
We must accept him and give him the power to rule and reign in our lives.
We must listen as the Spirit leads us into all righteousness.
We must try every spirit to make sure that the path we take is right.
We must have the map, the Word of God.
We must receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost, the Comforter, who is there, living inside your heart and mind to help you make the right turns and travel the straight and narrow path.
I hear a lot of hype about the "On-Star System" that is offered in a lot of the newer GM vehicles. It’s a system that keeps track of your vehicle, giving directions, unlocking doors via satellite and sending help in time of trouble.
The Holy Spirit within; Jesus in your heart is a far greater help than any man-made system. Most people never listen to His voice and don’t realize just how much He leads and directs the path of His children. They don’t know how much help He gives in times of trouble and how fast He is to come to our aid.
Yes life is full of perils. The scripture says that man’s days are short and full of trouble, but life is grand with the Lord on your side. He is your ever present friend in the time of need.
Accept Him today and let the Light arise in your heart.
The brighter the Son gets as the fire of the Holy Ghost gets greater within us, the more that the fog will burn away and we can see clearly where God wants us to go.
The natural day star is the last and brightest star that appears on the horizon just before the rising of the sun.
JESUS IS THE DAY STAR THAT ARISES IN THE DARKNESS OF YOUR SOUL AND LIVES IN YOUR HEART. THE HOLY SPIRIT PREPARES YOU FOR THE RISING OF THE SON OF GOD IN POWER AND GREAT GLORY TO DRIVE AWAY ALL DARKNESS AND FOG.
LET HIM BLOW AWAY THE CLOUDS SO THAT YOU CAN CLEARLY WHAT THE WILL OF GOD IS FOR YOUR LIFE.
