THEY WERE LOOKING FOR HIM
Text: Luke 2:21 HIS NAME WAS CALLED JESUS
MARY AND JOSEPH: They went to Bethlehem to be taxed. Mary brought forth a promised child called Jesus. There was no room for him in the inn, so he was born in a manager.
SHEPHERD: They were instructed by the
ANGELS: “For unto you is born this day in the City of David, a Savior which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)
HEAVENLY HOST: Praising God and aying, “Glory to God in the highest and on Earth, peace and good will toward men.”
MARY: The Mother, pondered the things going on.
SHEPHERD: Also glorifying and praising God for all things they had heard and seen. (verse 20)
SIMON: He had looked for the coming of Jesus. He was old but he still was pleased to old the baby Jesus. If was after this experience that Simon was ready to die. Simon blessed God when he saw Jesus.
ANNA, THE PROPHETESS: She had served God with fastings and prayers, night and day. She was a widow for many years. She gave thanks for Jesus and for all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
MATTHEW’S GOSPEL, CHAPTER 2:
WISEMEN: They were seeking the King of the Jews. They saw a star in the East, and they had come to worship him.
HEROD: He said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word that I may come and worship him also.
WISEMEN: They worshipped and gave gifts to him. Wisemen today still worship Jesus.
HEROD: He tried to destroy Jesus, for children two years and younger were slain. Scripture was fulfilled which stated, “In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and would not be comforted because they are not.” (Matthew 2:18)
What reasons are we looking for Jesus? To destroy him because he condemns us of our sin like Herod did.
To fulfill God’s purpose like MARY AND JOSEPH.
To praise God like the SHEPHERDS.
To hold Jesus and bless God like SIMON did.
To proclaim redemption like ANNA, the Prophetess
