Dangling Keys
1 Peter 5:8
(8) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
If I were to ask the question tonight,
“What do you do when the lion roars,” what would you say? Me? I WOULD RUN! ! !
Naaahhh, but seriously, I’m talking about the Devil.
Here, he is illustrated as a roaring lion.
When Satan begins to roar in your life you should learn to recognize him.
His attacks may come as;
* Finical
* Health
* Family
* Jobs.
All kinds of ways he may come.
We need to be waiting and expecting his roar.
It’s coming.
And we need to learn to “listen” for his roar.
Hearing Satan’s roar may cause fear.
And that’s not all bad.
Fear can keep you on your toes.
I manage a local grocery store also. Today a boy told me today that the stockers use to listen for my keys rattling. That way they knew I was coming and they would then get to work.
Something about those “keys dangling” put some fear into the workers.
* It would sharpen their awareness.
* It would make them get doing what they were supposed to be doing.
* It would make them go to work.
Most often I would have those keys out dangling "JUST SO" they would hear me coming and "FEAR" so that they would be working.
So then, fear in it self, is not all-bad.
In fact, FEAR can be good if we channel it the right way.
Peter here in this verse, wants us to be on the lookout.
He says to be listening for “DANGLING KEYS” so that we will be on our guard at all times.
When the lion roars, let’s not be caught in the wrong place doing the wrong thing.
Let’s be sober and let’s be vigilant.
Because he is walking around seeking those whom he may devour.
