2 Sam 5:22 And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of
Rephaim.
2 Sam 5:23 And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a
compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
2 Sam 5:24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees,
that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of
the Philistines.
2 Sam 5:25 And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from
Geba until thou come to Gazer.
INTRODUCTION:
David has just been anointed King of Israel and assumed the throne.
He had previously crushed the enemy of Israel, the Philistines (v17-21)
Now he is being challenged again.
The enemy desired to crush the new king in his infancy.
In their haste to destroy Israel they forgot a few things:
In I Sam 5&6 They forgot about the afflictions the had when they captured the Ark.
In I Sam 16:13-14 The Spirit of God rested upon David and left King Saul
In I Sam 17 David was the one who destroyed their Champion
But above everything else they forgot that Israel was God’s chosen people.
