Introduction
I. The role of a king: The king is the appointed leader over a country, it is a birthright and privilege, life of training and preparation, Even in our modern world there are still many kings,
II. The nature of a kingdom: The place where the king rules, the king provides and protects his people and his kingdom, King is the defender and ruler over his people
Body
I. Basic Background
A. Cyclical Pattern: This psalm moves from past, present and future, all of these aspects are seen in the flow of the psalm, this is giving reason for each and every generation to give praise and honor to God for His divine rule and grace
B. Situation: The author of this psalm is unknown and the situation of writing is unclear, this was used in corporate worship during the autumn festival or the covenant renewal festival at the new year
II. Anthem of Praise
A. Singing praise to God: Joyful heart, sincere spirit and a genuine love for God, praise comes most clearly through song, praise is one of the most essential aspects of worship, praise brings the presence of heaven down to earth,
B. New experiences are reason for praise: God gives us new experiences in life, He is the reason that we live and that we have an abundance of life, every new experience that we have build our tapestry of life, these are gifts from God
III. Perfection of God
A. The nature of God: The very nature of God is reason for praise, God is fully perfect and other than humanity, The whole nature of God is perfect, only God is perfect and He sets the standard for the whole universe, God is faithful to all of His people
B. God is perfect in love: God loves His people fully and completely, there are no bounds or limits to His love, another reason for praise, our love comes as a presence of God’s love
IV. God is creator and Ruler
A. God is the creator of the universe: God is above and beyond creation, He has made everything and He is the source of all existence, God is not an absent creator, He is present with us at all times
B. God is the ruler: God is the creator and the ruler of all creation, God sits on the throne of heaven and He is the great King, His creative act was the establishment of His kingdom, He rules with mercy and love for His kingdom
V. God is the ruler over humanity
A. God’s people are the inheritance of the world: God works His will through His people, God will change the world through the people, God called the people of Israel out of the nations to be a special and sacred people
B. God sees the activity of the earth: God monitors all of the activity of the earth, He watches over His people and guides them through life, God is an active and watchful ruler, God does not leave His people to their own devices, He is their support and defense
VI. God’s love for His people
A. The dependence on God: Israel was dependent on God, He came and gave support and provision in times of need, He was the good and wise King, they went to Him for their needs and He provided for them
B. God is the great King: God’s love is the key motivator for the people, He loved them even when they strayed, He protected them from enemies and gave them victory, God made Israel a great and mighty nation, He will always make His people great in the world, God loves His people and will not leave them
VII. Hope in God’s Love
A. The people will trust in God: There is a statement of faith and trust in God, He and He alone will protect and provide for the people, the people put their trust in God, He alone is the great King
B. The people rejoice in God: The people call out that God is their King and that He will provide for them, It is this aspect of who God is that causes rejoice, trust in God brings joy, He will watch over His people and care for their needs
Application
I. Anthem of Praise
A. We have reason to praise God: He has acted on our behalf, He will continue to give us protection and provision, we are to praise His presence and His power, He is the great King and the mighty ruler
B. New experiences bring reason for praise: Each new day is a reason for praise, every sunrise and sunset is an act of grace, God is at work 24 hours a day - seven days a week, He never stops and He is always leading us in new ways
II. Perfection of God
A. The nature of God: God is totally pure and without fault, He sets the standard that we must live, God is the source of holiness and sacredness, nothing is beyond Him
B. God loves perfectly: God loves His people completely and fully, it is this fact that separates Christian faith from the rest of the world, God acts out of love to save His people,
III. God is Creator and Ruler
A. God is the creator: He is the grand designer of everything, the whole universe is sourced in His hand, He has made everything, His greatest creation was humanity and you are a masterpiece of the creator
B. God is the Great Ruler: He is over all of creation, He is the great master, His creation stands as a testament of His power and His grace, He is the protector and provider of the universe
IV. God is the Ruler of Humanity
A. The Divine inheritance: We are the people of God and we are to be a blessing for the whole world, He has made us to be a blessing to one another and to the world, there is reason for our creation and God has made humanity His great masterpiece
B. God sees human activity: God watches over each of us, he grants us protection and provision in times of need, He is the great King who watches out for us
V. God’s Love for His People
A. Dependence on God: We are dependent on God for everything, His provision gives us what we need, We need God for His love and protection, He is the source of what is totally divine
B. God is the Great King: God watches out for us, He is there for His people, He stands behind His promises and has the ability to bring His promises into existence, He makes His will a reality
VI. Hope in God’s Love
A. Trust in God: Our faith and trust are placed in God, He will not fail us, His power and position are on our side, He lives up to His end of the bargain and His love endures forever
B. Rejoice in God: He is the source of all joy, our joy can not be complete without God, His joy is the only one that lasts through trials and troubles, Joy found in God is complete and full, He is the true source of joy
