Our Conqueror
Isa 63:1-6
1 Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah, with his garments stained crimson? Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength? "It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save."
2 Why are your garments red, like those of one treading the winepress?
3 "I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.
4 For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redemption has come.
5 I looked, but there was no one to help, I was appalled that no one gave support; so my own arm worked salvation for me, and my own wrath sustained me.
6 I trampled the nations in my anger; in my wrath I made them drunk and poured their blood on the ground."
Some view this passage as our Lord’s first coming. The expressions dyed garments and red apparel they believe spoke of the cross. However, the Atonement is not the reference in this prophesy.
This is not a portrait of Grace but of Judgment
Not one Crushed but one who crushes.
Not garments dyed with His blood but with his enemies
It is not a day of mercy but an hour of vengeance!
In our text the prophet sees a glorious personage coming from the enemies camp. He travels in the greatness of His strength. Thrilled at the sight, the prophet asks, Who is This? The approaching conqueror answers V-1 I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. V-3 and 6 reveals His victory. He has trodden down the nations, he was victorious over hostile powers, and He has done it with his own strength and might! Alone He conquered!
This is the answer to the Question Why doesn’t God do anything? He does break the silence of the centuries, crush the enemies, and deliver His people.
Let’s look at what our glorious has conqueror has conquered
1. Conqueror of Sin’s Dominion -We know the story of sin; when Adam and Eve disobeyed a generous and loving God in the beginning of human history. When sin came, it brought tears, pain, heartache, and sorrows that have been the experience of the family of man.
The Psalm for the sons of Korah was so true. Ps 49:6-7 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; 7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
We all needed someone to help us but there was no one. Then came the beautiful promise to Joseph Thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins Matt 1:21
Jesus came to conquer our sin problem. He became the Lamb of God to take away sin.
Paul Wrote Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
Paul also said of our glorious conqueror at Calvary Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
He took my guilt and carried it to the Old rugged cross. To Calvary. He died to break sin’s dominion! He rose again on the third day! We are provided freedom from sin, and a holy God had received and acceptable sacrifice. His earthly sojourn was for this purpose.
2. Conqueror of Death and Hell. I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold I am alive forever more. Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Rev 1:18 You know the story.
The cross was the climax of the battle. And it appeared to all that Satan had won. They laid him in a borrowed tomb. (Talk about disciples Hopelessness) It was indeed finished! But our Lord the conqueror, was battling in the unseen world! He took the keys from the tormentor. Heb 2:14-15
14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. We are free No longer in bondage. But FREE!
Our Lord tasted death for every man and went to the grave, but it could not hold him.
We are all on a one way street to death. We camouflage our decay. We who have placed our faith in Christ and His victory can proclaim Him as our mighty conqueror!
Few weeks ago picked out a casket for a loved one. But he was a believer His faith was in Christ. He want need casket long. A resurrection is on the way. Because he followed Jesus Christ the conqueror of death and the grave. 1 Cor 15:52-57
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. What a loving father. So loved the world gave his son.
3. Conqueror of my heart- I was a sinner and I needed a savior. No great sins had I done, never did drugs, alcohol, gamble, wasn’t a robber or murderer. But I was just as guilty. Because I was born in sin. I needed a Savior!
(Testimony how got saved) I heard his gentle invitation. Matt 11:28 Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Prov 23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
How could I refuse? He took me like I was and conquered my heart with love.
4. Conqueror of a world sold under sin. Our world bears the scars of its sinful population. We live in a world that needs redemption. Redemption is not yet complete. Eph 1:14 Paul writes of the redemption of the purchased possession.
God’s plan will be finished and a new heaven and a new earth will experience the bliss of redemption’s restoration. 2 Peter 3:13 We according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Surely he will conqueror. And our father has a plan for a redeemed world. Our glorious conqueror, has predetermined the final chapter of this worlds prophesy. He will put all enemies under his feet. 1 Cor 15:25
24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
Our glorious conqueror has predetermined the final chapter of this worlds prophecy. He will put all enemies under his feet 1 Cor 15:25
