Mark 11:1–11 The Donkey

1. Palm Sunday

• Palm Sunday is known for the crowds, the branches, the shouts of “Hosanna!

• But none of it happens without one quiet, overlooked character: the donkey

• The donkey becomes the Christ-bearer, the vessel God uses to carry Jesus into Jerusalem.

• Maybe we can look at what this humble animal teaches us about following Christ.

2. Notice the text says “The Lord has need of it “

• He needed the donkey to fulfill prophecy Zechariah 9:9Zechariah had predicted 500 years earlier that A king would ride in Jerusalem on a donkey , Be full of joy, O people of Zion! Call out in a loud voice, O people of Jerusalem! See, your King is coming to you. He is fair and good and has the power to save. He is not proud and sits on a donkey, on the son of a female donkey.

• He needed the donkey because the donkey symbolized peace, service , and humility

• The Lord has need of humble servants always God wants us to be part of the mission “Go ye therefore make disciple babying them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit. God has need of Disciples

3. THE DONKEY WAS WILLING (Mark 11:4–6)

• The Donkey was willing but so was The owners they released the Donkey

• The owner let go of something valuable because Jesus needed it.

• Becoming a disciple often requires releasing what we hold tightly.

• The donkey submitted to being led No resistance. Just simple obedience.

• If were available God uses those who are available Not the most talented. Not the most visible. But the most willing.

4. THE DONKEY CARRIED JESUS (Mark 11:7–10)

• The crowd wasn’t cheering for the donkey.But the donkey just carried the King.

• The donkey didn’t seek attention No pride. No spotlight. Just faithful service

• Our calling is To carry Christ into our homes, workplaces, communities.

• Our calling To lift Him up so others can see Him.

5. THE DONKEY FULFILLED PROPHECY (Mark 11:11; Zechariah 9:

• Jesus riding a donkey was not accidental It fulfilled Scripture.

• It revealed His identity as the humble King.Even small acts of faithfulness matter.

• The donkey’s role was simple but it was impactful Our service may seem small, but God multiplies it.

6. Let us Be a Christ-Bearer Palm Sunday is It’s about humility, obedience, and availability.

• The donkey teaches us: God uses ordinary people.

• God uses the Willing Obedience opens the door many things

• The Donkey Carried Christ Our mission is to lift up Jesus.

• Will you be a Christ-bearer Will you carry Him into your home, your workplace, your relationships? Will you offer yourself—ordinary, humble, imperfect—as the vessel God can use?
