1. Introduction

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today, we are not gathered for a routine prayer.

We are standing at Calvary.

Look at the Cross.

Do not look at it from a distance.

Stand close… very close…

Because this is not just about Jesus.

👉 This is about me.

👉 This is about you.

If there were no sin—there would be no Cross.

If there were no Cross—there would be no salvation.

So today we must courageously admit:

👉 It is my sins that crucified Him.

And yet…

👉 It is His love that chose to remain there.

2. First Reading: Isaiah 52:13–53:12 — He Took My Place

The prophet Isaiah describes the suffering of Christ with astonishing clarity:

• “Despised and rejected”

• “A man of sorrows”

• “Pierced for our transgressions”

• “Crushed for our iniquities”

This is not just a description.

This is a revelation of what sin does.

Sin is not just breaking a rule.

👉 Sin breaks the heart of God.

Every sin:

• wounds Christ

• adds to His suffering

But here is the most powerful truth:

👉 “He bore our sins.”

He did not die for His sins—He had none.

He died for my sins.

This is substitution.

He takes:

• my guilt

• my punishment

• my place

And gives me:

• forgiveness

• healing

• life

“By His wounds we are healed.”

3. Psalm 31 — Trust in the Darkness

“My God, I trust in You… into Your hands I commend my spirit.”

Jesus prays this Psalm while dying.

Externally:

• He is mocked

• He is abandoned

• He is in agony

Internally:

👉 He trusts.

This teaches us something very important:

Faith is not proven when everything is going well.

Faith is proven when everything is falling apart.

Even when:

• God seems silent

• prayers seem unanswered

👉 Jesus still surrenders.

4. Second Reading: Hebrews — He Knows Your Pain

“He offered prayers with loud cries and tears.”

This is a powerful image.

Jesus is not calm and untouched.

He is:

• crying

• struggling

• suffering

This means:

👉 There is no pain in your life that Jesus does not understand.

• Your fear

• Your loneliness

• Your struggles

He has entered into all of it.

And because of this:

👉 You can approach Him without fear.

5. Gospel: The Passion According to John

In John’s Gospel, Jesus is not a helpless victim.

He is:

👉 a King

👉 a Priest

👉 a Savior in control

He:

• steps forward in arrest

• carries His Cross willingly

• completes His mission

And finally says:

👉 “It is finished.”

Not in defeat…

but in victory.

6. THE SEVEN LAST WORDS OF JESUS — THE HEART OF THE CROSS

👉 “The Cross is not just the story of Jesus… it is the story of every one of us.”

Look at the Crucifix carefully.

• The thorns are not only on His head… they are the result of our pride

• The wounds are not only on His body… they are caused by our sins

• The suffering is not only His… it is what we have brought upon Him

👉 The Cross is like a mirror.

When we look at Jesus crucified,

we must have the courage to say:

👉 “Lord, this is what my sin has done to You.”

And yet, there is something even more powerful.

At the very same Cross:

• we see the worst of humanity

• and the greatest love of God

We see:

• hatred… and forgiveness

• sin… and mercy

• cruelty… and compassion

So before we listen to His words,

let us ask ourselves:

👉 “Where am I standing at Calvary?”

Am I:

• like the crowd—indifferent?

• like the soldiers—careless?

• like the thief—repentant?

• or like Mary—faithful?

Because even today…

👉 We are all standing somewhere at the foot of the Cross.

Now, let us stand at the foot of the Cross and listen.

👉 “Look at Him… don’t look at me… look at Him…”

Each word is not just spoken…

it is purchased with blood.

1. “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”

📖 (Luke 23:34)

Jesus is nailed to the Cross.

Every breath is pain.

Yet His first word is not anger…

not complaint…

👉 It is forgiveness.

He does not wait for an apology.

He forgives while they are still sinning.

This is divine love.

He is not only forgiving the soldiers.

👉 He is forgiving us.

Every sin we commit:

• is a rejection of Him

• is a wound to His love

And yet He says:

👉 “Father, forgive.”

This is the beginning of salvation.

If forgiveness did not flow from the Cross,

none of us would have hope.

2. “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

📖 (Luke 23:43)

Next to Jesus is a criminal.

A man who wasted his life.

A man with no good works to show.

Yet in his final moment, he says:

👉 “Jesus, remember me.”

That is enough.

Immediately, Jesus responds:

👉 “Today… you will be with me.”

Notice:

• no delay

• no conditions

• no rejection

This reveals:

👉 God’s mercy is greater than our past.

No one here should say:

“I am too sinful.”

As long as there is breath—there is hope.

3. “Woman, behold your son… behold your mother.”

📖 (John 19:26–27)

Jesus is in extreme agony.

Yet He looks at His mother…

and at the beloved disciple.

Even in suffering, He loves.

He gives us His greatest human treasure:

👉 His Mother.

Mary stands at the Cross:

• not running away

• not collapsing

• but standing in silent strength

She shares in His suffering.

From that moment:

👉 She becomes our Mother.

We are not alone at the Cross.

4. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

📖 (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34)

This is the most painful cry.

Jesus feels:

• abandoned

• alone

• surrounded by darkness

This is not lack of faith.

This is the depth of His suffering.

He enters into the experience of every person who feels:

• “God is far from me”

• “I am alone”

On the Cross:

👉 Jesus takes even our loneliness upon Himself.

So when you feel abandoned:

👉 Remember—He has already been there.

5. “I thirst.”

📖 (John 19:28)

Physically, Jesus is dehydrated.

But this word goes deeper.

This is not only thirst for water.

👉 This is thirst for souls.

He thirsts for:

• your love

• your repentance

• your return

He is saying:

👉 “I gave everything for you… will you give Me your heart?”

This is a painful truth:

Many respond with indifference.

Even today, He still says:

👉 “I thirst.”

________________________________________

6. “It is finished.”

📖 (John 19:30)

This is not a sigh of defeat.

This is a cry of completion.

Everything is fulfilled:

• the prophecies

• the mission

• the plan of salvation

The debt of sin is paid.

The door of heaven is opened.

👉 Nothing more needs to be added.

Your salvation is not incomplete.

It is already accomplished on the Cross.

7. “Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit.”

📖 (Luke 23:46)

This is the final word.

Total surrender.

Jesus gives everything:

• His body

• His blood

• His life

Into the hands of the Father.

He dies:

• trusting

• loving

• surrendering

This is how a Christian life must end:

👉 in complete surrender to God.

We have heard the Seven Last Words of Jesus.

But now we must ask:

👉 What will we do with what we have heard?

👉 “It is not enough to admire the Cross—we must carry it.”

Good Friday is not only for:

• listening

• feeling

• being moved emotionally

👉 It is for transformation.

The Cross is not meant to remain:

• on the altar

• in pictures

• in devotion

👉 It must enter into our life.

If we truly understand the Cross, then:

• we will forgive those who hurt us

• we will accept sacrifices without complaint

• we will turn away from sin

• we will begin a new life

Thomas à Kempis reminds us strongly:

👉 “If you willingly carry the Cross, it will carry you.”

But if we refuse:

• to change

• to repent

• to sacrifice

👉 the same Cross will become heavy and painful.

So today, the question is not:

👉 “Did you attend Good Friday?”

But:

👉 “Will you live Good Friday?”

Will you:

• forgive?

• change your life?

• return to God?

Because the Cross demands not admiration…

👉 but decision.

7. Spiritual Diagnosis

Let us examine ourselves sincerely:

• Do I forgive like Jesus?

• Do I delay repentance like the bad thief?

• Do I respond to His thirst?

• Do I trust God in suffering?

• Do I take His sacrifice seriously?

________________________________________

8. Illustration: A Love Ignored

Imagine someone saving your life at the cost of his own.

Would you ignore that?

Would you live carelessly?

Yet Jesus has done infinitely more.

And still:

• we delay confession

• we hold on to sin

• we ignore His love

________________________________________

9. The Call of the Hour

Today, the Cross is speaking:

👉 “I died for you.”

👉 “Will you live for Me?”

👉 “Do not just hear the Seven Words—let them judge your life.”

👉 “The Cross is not decoration—it is a call to transformation.”

👉 “If Christ died for you, you cannot live for yourself.”

________________________________________

10. Conclusion: Do Not Leave the Cross Unchanged

Dear brothers and sisters,

Before we leave this place…

before we move away from this moment…

Let us remain for a while at the foot of the Cross.

Look at Him.

• His hands are stretched… not in rejection, but in embrace

• His head is bent… not in defeat, but in love

• His heart is opened… not by force, but to pour out mercy

Do not rush away.

Because this Cross is not asking for information…

👉 It is asking for transformation.

________________________________________

1. See What Sin Has Done

Look again.

This is what sin does.

• It wounds

• It destroys

• It crucifies love

Let us not treat sin lightly.

Let us not justify it.

Let us not delay turning back to God.

Because every sin has a cost…

👉 And the cost is hanging before our eyes.

________________________________________

2. See What Love Has Done

Now look deeper.

This is what love does.

• It suffers

• It forgives

• It gives everything

Jesus did not say:

“I love you” only with words.

👉 He proved it with His life.

He held nothing back.

Not His body…

Not His blood…

Not even His last breath…

👉 All was given for you.

________________________________________

3. Hear the Voice of the Cross

From the Cross, Jesus is still speaking:

👉 “I forgave you… will you forgive?”

👉 “I gave My life… will you give yours?”

👉 “I thirsted for you… will you come to Me?”

This is not a past event.

👉 This is a present call.

________________________________________

4. Make a Decision Today

Good Friday is not only for emotion.

It is for decision.

Today, let something change:

• A sin to leave behind

• A person to forgive

• A habit to surrender

• A prayer life to begin again

Do not say:

“Tomorrow…”

Because the Cross is asking:

👉 “Today.”

________________________________________

5. Do Not Leave the Cross Empty-Handed

Do not leave as you came.

Take something with you:

• Take His forgiveness

• Take His love

• Take His Cross

And carry it into your life.

Let your family see:

👉 something has changed.

Let your life show:

👉 you have met the Crucified Christ.

________________________________________

6. A Final Personal Encounter

Now, in silence…

Speak to Jesus in your heart:

“Lord Jesus,

You suffered for me…

You died for me…

You loved me to the end…

I am sorry for my sins.

I return to You.

I give my life to You.

Teach me to love like You,

to forgive like You,

to live for You.”

________________________________________

Final Word

Dear brothers and sisters,

The Cross is not the end.

It is the beginning.

• The beginning of forgiveness

• The beginning of a new life

• The beginning of hope

From the Cross, the Lord poured out each drop of His Blood, offering it like a rosary of blood for our salvation.

Let us leave today not in despair…

But in quiet, deep, and transforming gratitude.

Because:

👉 We are loved.

👉 We are forgiven.

👉 We are saved.

11. Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Crucified for our sins,

Your love is beyond understanding.

Break our hearts that have become hard,

open our eyes to see Your sacrifice,

and draw us into true repentance.

Teach us to:

• forgive

• trust

• surrender

May Your Cross transform our lives,

and lead us to the joy of the Resurrection.

Amen.
