1. Introduction

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today we stand at the entrance of the most sacred week of the year—Holy Week.

We began this celebration with joy:

• Carrying palm branches

• Singing “Hosanna!”

• Remembering Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem

But suddenly, the mood changes.

We just heard the Passion of our Lord:

• Betrayal

• Suffering

• Rejection

• Crucifixion

The same crowd that shouted:

👉 “Hosanna!”

Later shouted:

👉 “Crucify Him!”

My dear people,

this is not just their story…

👉 This is our story.

Because many times:

• We praise God on Sunday

• But forget Him on Monday

• We trust Him in blessings

• But doubt Him in suffering

So today, God is asking us a question:

👉 “Are you a Palm Sunday disciple… or a Good Friday disciple?”

3. The Cry of the Human Heart

Today, what is the condition of people?

People are:

• Emotionally tired

• Spiritually confused

• Afraid of suffering

• Searching for quick solutions

Everyone wants:

• Success without sacrifice

• Blessings without commitment

• Resurrection without the Cross

Many say:

👉 “Father, I believe in God… but why is my life full of problems?”

👉 “Why does God allow suffering?”

👉 “Why do good people suffer?”

Deep inside, the human heart is crying:

👉 “Lord, I want to follow You… but not through suffering.”

This is the real struggle.

4. The Message of Today’s Readings

________________________________________

(1) First Reading – The Courage of the Suffering Servant (Isaiah 50:4–7)

The prophet Isaiah presents a powerful image:

“I gave my back to those who beat me…”

Think about this.

He did not:

• Run away

• Fight back

• Complain

He accepted suffering.

Why?

Because he trusted God.

👉 This is fulfilled perfectly in Jesus.

Jesus:

• Was insulted

• Was beaten

• Was spat upon

Yet He remained silent.

Explanation for People

My dear brothers and sisters,

In our life:

• When someone insults us ? we react immediately

• When someone hurts us ? we want revenge

But Jesus shows:

True strength is not reacting… but surrendering to God.

(2) Responsorial Psalm – The Prayer of the Suffering Heart (Psalm 22)

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

These are the words of Jesus on the Cross.

But this is not a cry of despair.

It is a prayer of trust.

Explanation

Sometimes in our life we feel:

• God is silent

• God is far away

• God is not listening

But even in that moment:

👉 We must continue to pray.

Illustration

A child cries when the mother is not visible.

But the mother is still there.

In the same way:

👉 God is present even when He seems absent.

(3) Second Reading – The Humility of Christ (Philippians 2:6–11)

This is one of the most beautiful passages in the Bible.

Jesus:

• Though He was God

• Became human

• Became a servant

• Became obedient

• Accepted death

Even death on a Cross.

Deep Teaching

The world says:

👉 “Climb higher… become greater… dominate others.”

But Jesus teaches:

👉 “Go down… serve… humble yourself.”

Key Truth

👉 Humility leads to exaltation.

(4) Gospel – The Passion of the Lord

This long Gospel is not just to be heard—it is to be lived.

Let us reflect slowly:

Judas – Betrayal

He was close to Jesus—but his heart was far.

👉 Lesson:

You can be near God… but still lose Him.

________________________________________

Peter – Denial

He loved Jesus—but he was weak.

👉 Lesson:

Good intentions are not enough—faith needs courage.

________________________________________

Pilate – Compromise

He knew the truth—but feared people.

👉 Lesson:

When we choose popularity over truth—we fail.

________________________________________

The Crowd – Instability

They shouted “Hosanna”… then “Crucify Him!”

👉 Lesson:

Emotional faith is not stable faith.

________________________________________

Jesus – Faithfulness

Through all suffering:

• No anger

• No revenge

• No hatred

Only love.

👉 This is divine love.

👉 Integration of All Readings

• Isaiah ? The suffering servant

• Psalm ? The cry of suffering

• Philippians ? The meaning of suffering

• Gospel ? The fulfillment of suffering

👉 The Cross is God’s plan to save us.

Illustration (Powerful)

My dear people,

When a person is seriously sick, they go to the hospital.

The doctor may:

• Cut the body

• Remove something

• Cause pain

But why?

👉 To heal.

The Church is like an operation theater.

The Cross is the surgery.

Jesus is the doctor.

👉 Through His wounds—we are healed.

5. Key Biblical Verse

“He humbled Himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a Cross.”

6. Spiritual Symbolism

• Palm branches ? Temporary enthusiasm

• Cross ? Permanent love

• Blood ? Redemption

• Silence of Jesus ? Perfect obedience

7. Witness of Faith

The saints teach us:

• Faith is not proved in comfort—but in suffering

• Real love sacrifices

They stayed with Christ:

• In pain

• In rejection

• In loneliness

________________________________________

8. Spiritual Diagnosis

Let us be honest.

Our problems:

• We want blessings—but avoid sacrifice

• We follow Christ—but only when it is easy

• We pray—but lose faith in suffering

👉 The real disease:

A weak, unstable, comfort-seeking faith

________________________________________

9. Spiritual Contrast & Divine Remedy

World Christ

Comfort Sacrifice

Pride Humility

Control Surrender

Fear Trust

👉 Remedy:

Carry your cross with Christ.

10. Pastoral Reflection

Dear brothers and sisters,

Jesus is not asking you to understand everything.

He is asking:

👉 “Trust Me.”

Even when:

• Life is painful

• Situations are confusing

• Prayers seem unanswered

👉 Stay with Him.

________________________________________

11. Self-Examination

Let us examine ourselves:

• Am I a Sunday Christian only?

• Do I follow Jesus in suffering?

• Where do I betray Him?

• What is my cross today?

(Keep silence for a moment)

________________________________________

12. The Call of the Hour

This Holy Week is not ordinary.

God is calling you:

👉 Come closer

👉 Pray more

👉 Change your life

________________________________________

13. Weekly Action

• Attend Holy Week liturgies

• Meditate on the Passion daily

• Practice one sacrifice silently

________________________________________

14. The Echo and Take-Home Message

“Do not be a ‘Hosanna’ follower—be a ‘Cross’ follower.”

________________________________________

15. Conclusion

Today, we must decide.

Will we:

• Follow Jesus only in joy?

OR

• Follow Him even to the Cross?

Because:

👉 Without the Cross—there is no Resurrection.

If we walk with Him in suffering,

we will share His glory.

16. Prayer

Lord Jesus,

You suffered for us with love and obedience.

Give us the strength to follow You faithfully.

Help us to carry our crosses with trust.

Transform our hearts this Holy Week.

Lead us from the Cross to the joy of Resurrection.

Amen.
