Summary: Abraham – Trust Beyond Delay Joseph – From Pit to Palace Mary – The Hidden Years

TRUST GOD’S TIMING

________________________________________

1. Introduction

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Three things trouble the human heart deeply:

• Delay

• Uncertainty

• Waiting

We can endure suffering.

We can endure hard work.

We can endure sacrifice.

But waiting?

Waiting tests our faith more than pain does.

Abraham waited 25 years for the promised son.

Joseph waited in prison before the palace.

David waited before he wore the crown.

Mary waited at Nazareth.

The apostles waited in the Upper Room.

And we wait.

We wait for healing.

We wait for marriage.

We wait for children.

We wait for success.

We wait for answers.

Today’s message is powerful and life-changing:

Trust God’s timing.

Because when we choose God first,

we never lose —

even if we must wait.

2. The Cry of the Human Heart

Deep within every person is a silent cry:

“Lord, why not now?”

Why is my prayer unanswered?

Why is my effort unnoticed?

Why is my suffering prolonged?

We live in a microwave generation.

Everything is instant:

• Instant food

• Instant money transfers

• Instant messages

• Instant gratification

But God is not instant.

God is eternal.

And eternity does not move at the speed of human impatience.

The real cry of the heart is not about delay.

It is about control.

We want God’s blessings —

but we want them in our schedule.

And when things don’t happen our way,

we are tempted to choose:

• Anxiety over faith

• Control over surrender

• Worldly security over divine trust

But today the Lord asks:

“Will you choose Me — even when I seem silent?”

3. Biblical Foundation

1. Abraham – Trust Beyond Delay

In the Book of Genesis, Abraham receives a promise:

“You will have a son.”

He was 75 years old.

The promise was fulfilled when he was 100.

Twenty-five years of waiting.

Yet Scripture says:

“Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

Abraham chose God over doubt.

He chose promise over logic.

2. Joseph – From Pit to Palace

In the Book of Genesis, Joseph is betrayed, sold, and imprisoned.

Years passed.

But when the time was right, God lifted him.

Not one day early.

Not one day late.

3. Mary – The Hidden Years

In the Gospel of Luke, Mary receives the angelic message.

But after Bethlehem, there are 30 silent years.

Thirty years of hidden obedience.

God prepares before He reveals.

4. Jesus – The Perfect Hour

In the Gospel of John, Jesus says repeatedly:

“My hour has not yet come.”

But when the hour came —

He embraced the Cross.

Even the Son of God trusted the Father’s timing.

4. Spiritual Diagnosis

Why is waiting so painful?

Because waiting exposes:

• Our pride

• Our impatience

• Our lack of surrender

• Our hidden idols

When we struggle with God’s timing, often it is because we have chosen something else over Him:

• Career over calling

• Money over morality

• Comfort over commitment

• Relationship over righteousness

Waiting reveals what we truly worship.

If we choose God only when it is convenient,

then we have not truly chosen Him.

5. The Great Spiritual Contrast

There are two ways to live:

1. Choosing the World First

This leads to:

• Anxiety

• Comparison

• Competition

• Fear of missing out

When we choose success first,

we lose peace.

When we choose wealth first,

we lose contentment.

When we choose people’s approval first,

we lose our identity.

2. Choosing God First

“But seek first the Kingdom of God…”

When we choose God:

• Peace replaces panic

• Patience replaces pressure

• Trust replaces tension

God’s delays are not denials.

They are divine preparations.

6. Pastoral Reflection

Dear preachers and faithful,

In pastoral ministry, we see many who lose faith because of delay:

• Parents praying for children

• Youth waiting for employment

• Couples longing for children

• Families struggling financially

We must teach them:

Delay is not abandonment.

Silence is not absence.

Waiting is not wasting.

God works in hidden seasons.

The seed underground looks dead.

But it is growing.

7. The Wisdom of the Saints

Saint Augustine of Hippo

“God is never late. He is never early. He is always on time.”

Saint Teresa of Avila

“Let nothing disturb you… God alone suffices.”

Saint Padre Pio

“Pray, hope, and don’t worry.”

Saint John Paul II

“Do not be afraid. Open wide the doors for Christ.”

All the saints chose God over everything.

Not comfort.

Not popularity.

Not speed.

They chose surrender.

8. Self-Examination

Ask yourself honestly:

• Do I trust God only when things go well?

• What am I afraid of losing?

• Have I placed something above God?

• Do I panic when prayers are delayed?

• Is my faith conditional?

Look at your life.

Where is God placed?

First?

Or after everything else?

9. The Echo of the Message

If you remember only one truth today:

God’s timing is perfect —

even when it is painful.

Delay strengthens faith.

Waiting purifies desire.

Silence deepens surrender.

Choose God over:

• Speed

• Success

• Security

• Social approval

Because when you choose God,

you choose eternity.

10. The Call of the Hour

Our society is losing patience.

Divorce rates are increasing because people cannot wait.

Corruption increases because people cannot trust.

Depression increases because people compare timelines.

The world says:

“Achieve now.”

God says:

“Trust Me now.”

The call of this hour is radical:

Choose God even if:

• Others move ahead

• Your prayer seems unanswered

• Your life looks delayed

Choose faith over fear.

11. Weekly Action

This week:

Choose ONE area where you are impatient.

Instead of complaining, say daily:

“Lord, I trust Your timing.”

Pray 5 minutes every day in silence.

No requests.

Only surrender.

12. The Message to Carry Home

If you remember only one line today, remember this:

When you choose God first, you will never be last.

13. Conclusion

My dear brothers and sisters,

History proves this truth:

Abraham waited — and became the father of nations.

Joseph waited — and saved nations.

Mary waited—and gave the Saviour.

Jesus waited — and redeemed the world.

Your waiting has purpose.

Do not choose temporary comfort over eternal glory.

Choose God.

Choose trust.

Choose surrender.

And one day you will look back and say:

“Lord, Your timing was perfect.”

14. Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We confess that waiting is hard.

We become impatient.

We become anxious.

We try to control what belongs to You.

Teach us to trust.

Teach us to surrender.

Teach us to choose You over everything.

When your answer is “wait,”

give us peace.

When Your answer is “not yet,”

give us patience.

When Your answer is “trust Me,”

give us faith.

May we seek You first.

May we love You most.

May we trust Your perfect timing.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
