1. Exodus 19:4–6
2. Leviticus 20:22-24
3. Psalm 24
Leviticus 20:22-24(KJV)
22 Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: that the land, whither I bring you to dwell therein, spue you not out.
23 And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.
24 But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the Lord your God, which have separated you from other people.
The book of Leviticus follows Exodus.
God delivered Israel from Egypt before He demanded holiness.
The book of Leviticus is often misunderstood. Many see it as a book of rules, but it is actually a book of relationship and holiness.
• Before God gave Israel laws, He gave them liberty.
• Before He gave commandments, He gave covenant.
• Before instruction, there was redemption from Egypt.
God does not separate people to control them — He separates them to bless them.
“I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.”
This is not rejection — this is selection.
1. SEPARATION IS FOR PRESERVATION. (Leviticus 20:22)
“Keep all my statutes… that the land spue you not out.”
Psalm 24:3–4 – “Who shall ascend…? He that hath clean hands and a pure heart.”
Proverbs 4:23 – “Keep thy heart with all diligence…”
Matthew 5:13 – “Ye are the salt of the earth…”
God warned people of Israel that if they lived like the surrounding nations, the very land would reject them.
Illustration: Salt and Decay
Jesus said believers are the salt of the earth. Salt preserves meat from rotting.
But if salt loses its distinctiveness, decay spreads quickly.
When believers lose holiness:
• Families decay.
• Churches weaken.
• Nations collapse.
The History proves how the children of Israel flourished when they were obedient, but when they followed pagan nations, captivity followed.
The land that was flowing with milk and honey became a land of bondage.
Holiness preserves destiny.
2. SEPARATION FROM THE DANGER OF CULTURAL COMPROMISE (Leviticus 20:23)
( Kalaccara camaracattin apattiliruntu pirittal)
“You shall not walk in the manners of the nation…”
The surrounding nations practiced:
• Idolatry
• Sexual immorality
• Child sacrifice
• Witchcraft
God said, “Do not copy them.”
Illustration : The Thermometer vs The Thermostat
A thermometer only reflects the temperature of the room.
A thermostat changes the temperature of the room.
Many believers are thermometers — they adjust to culture.
God called us to be thermostats — to change culture.
1. Daniel 1:8 – Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself.
2. Acts 5:29 – “We ought to obey God rather than men.”
You cannot reflect heaven while imitating Babylon.
3. SEPARATION PRECEDES POSSESSION: (Leviticus 20:24).
– “Ye shall inherit their land…”
What Is The Biblical Pattern of God’s separation in order to possess?
1. Separation
2. Obedience
3. Inheritance
God always separates before He promotes His people.
• Abraham left Ur before Canaan.
• Joseph endured prison before palace.
• David faced wilderness before throne.
• Even Jesus was led into the wilderness before ministry power.
There is no crown without consecration.
4. SEPARATION GIVES YOU IDENTITY: (Leviticus 20:24c)
God keeps repeating this phrase. Why?
Identity produces obedience.
1. Deuteronomy 7:6 – “Thou art an holy people unto the LORD…”
2. 1 Peter 2:9 – “A chosen generation, a royal priesthood…”
3. Ephesians 1:4 – “Chosen… before the foundation of the world.”
4. 2 Corinthians 5:17 – “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.”
You do not live holy to become chosen.
But you live holy because you are chosen.
Israel did not obey to become God’s people.
They obeyed because they were God’s people.
A prince does not behave like a poor man.
The church is not called to blend — but to shine.
Conclusion:
MILK AND HONEY REQUIRE SEPARATION
“A land flowing with milk and honey…”
Milk speaks of provision.
Honey speaks of sweetness and abundance.
But promise cannot coexist with persistent rebellion.
Many believers want milk and honey while holding onto Egypt.
You cannot carry the world and inherit the promise.
Illustration: The Eagle and the Crow
Crows fly in flocks and feed on dead things.
Eagles fly alone and feed on what is living.
If an eagle spends too much time among crows, it forgets its altitude.
God did not create you to live in low spiritual altitude.
You are called to soar.
Final Challenge
Ask yourself:
• Where have I allowed culture to influence conviction?
• Where have I adjusted truth to avoid rejection?
• What hidden compromise could cost my inheritance?
God is not looking for popularity.
Rather He is looking for purity.
Illustration: The Burning Coal
A burning coal removed from the fire slowly grows cold.
Placed back in the fire, it burns again.
Isolation from God’s presence produces spiritual coldness.
Separation unto God produces spiritual fire.
