The study of Cornelius from Acts 10 is worth learning. He is not so prominent or spoken much often in the Bible but certain things mentioned about him is very amazing. It is very important to learn from such characters so as to understand what God expects from us and what He wants us to do.
We are gonna look into a few points down here below:
Acts 10:1-2 talks about his qualities. A man who was a Centurion by profession yet he made a difference.
1. He was a Devout man.
The meaning of Devout means very deep rooted in one's religion. So was Cornelius. He was very religious. We often talk about being spiritual than religious, yet he committed to his beliefs. He had his own time with God. He believed in God. He followed the practices as mentioned in the Word. Devotion to one's spiritual life is very important. Devoted heart is a committed heart.
2. He feared God.
The fear of God follows a lot of promises from God. All through the Word of God we see amazing blessings for those who fear God. This is something that God expects from us in accordance to Deuteronomy 10:12. He wants us to fear Him. Some of the wonderful promises are that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him. Cornelius not only feared God alone but with his entire household. He also taught the fear of God to his family.
3. He gave alms generously.
It is written that God loves a cheerful giver. The Word also states that it shall be given to those that give. It is important to understand that giving is a Biblical principle. How we give is equally important. He gave generously. With the measure we use the same measure shall be applied unto us. Pressed down, shaken together, running over. If we read Acts 10:4 the angel of the Lord was sent to make a mention that his giving has been recognised by God. Giving plays a very important role in the Kingdom of God. Let us make it a habit to sow into the Kingdom, into the needy, into those who are in need of help.
4. Prayed always.
I love this portion. He prayed always. He was a Prayer warrior. He was a man who prayed. He had a personal relationship with God. It was his regular habit to pray each day. It is God's Will that we pray continually in accordance to 1 Thessalonians 5:17. It is only prayer through which we could communicate with God. Prayer bridges the gap between God and Man. It is our responsibility to pray each day. Let us rebuild and reestablish our relationship with God through Prayer. The angel of the Lord also mentioned that his giving and his prayers came up as a memorial before God. This is a clear picture that God knows us when we pray. He also has a record of how much we pray and when we pray.
My Prayer is that the above points would help us in a greater and deeper revelation of God.
God bless you abundantly !!!
