Summary: Everything created, seen, achieved and attained is for a while, only the Word of God remains forever.

THE UNCHANGING WORD IN A CHANGING WORLD

Study Text: Matthew 24:35

Introduction:

- Jesus spoke these words in the midst of prophetic teaching about the end times.

- He deliberately contrasts the temporary nature of creation with the eternal authority of His Word.

- Everything we see: nations, systems, economies, bodies, and even the visible heavens, are on a countdown. But there is one reality that time cannot erode, fire cannot burn, and death cannot silence: the Word of God.

- Jesus didn't say this word to scare us, but to anchor us.

- We shall be discussing the topic under three subheadings:

1. The Passing of the Physical Creation

2. The Permanence of the Prophetic Constitution

3. The Priority of Personal Commitment

1. The Passing of the Physical Creation

- “Heaven and earth shall pass away…”

- Jesus begins with a shocking truth: the visible universe is temporary.

- Heaven and earth (the physical world) were created by God and are subject to His timetable. Psalm 102:25–26 says creation will “wear out like a garment.”

- 2 Peter 3:10 tells us the elements will melt with fervent heat.

- This means: Human achievements are temporary

- Political power is temporary

- Wealth, fame, buildings, and bodies are temporary

- Even what looks strong today can disappear tomorrow.

- Many people live as if the earth is permanent and eternity is distant. Jesus changes that thinking. The world is passing; eternity is approaching.

- Don’t build your hope on what can collapse

- Don’t anchor your joy to what can be lost

- Don’t measure success only by earthly gain

- I'd it can pass away, it cannot be your foundation.

2. The Permanence of the Prophetic Constitution

- “…but my words shall not pass away.”

- Jesus places His Word above the universe itself.

- God’s Word existed before creation (John 1:1).

- Creation came into being by the Word (Hebrews 11:3).

- What created the universe cannot be destroyed with it.

- Isaiah 40:8 declares:

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God shall stand forever.”

- Every promise:

Spoken over your life

Declared over your destiny

Released over the Church

…will outlive time, trouble, and trials.

Spiritual Insight

- Circumstances may argue, delays may test faith, but God’s Word does not expire.

- What God said:

In your waiting season

In your dark season

In your silent season

…is still alive and working.

- Hold the Word tighter than your feelings

- Believe the promise more than the problem

- Trust God’s Word above human reports

- What God says is more permanent than what you see.

3. The Priority of Personal Commitment

- If heaven and earth will pass away, and God’s Word will not, then how should we live?

- Jesus is calling us to eternal alignment.

- 1 Peter 1:24–25 reminds us that human life is brief, but the Word endures.

- Matthew 7:24–27 shows that only those who build on the Word survive storms. This truth demands:

- Obedience, not admiration

- Faithfulness, not familiarity

- Commitment, not convenience

- Knowing the Word is not enough—we must live by it.

- What you prioritize reveals what you believe will last.

- If eternity is real, salvation matters

- If the Word endures, holiness matters

- If time is short, purpose matters

- Are you saved or just religious?

- Are you living for applause or for eternity?

- Are you preparing for heaven or clinging to earth?

- Only what is rooted in the Word will survive what is coming.

Conclusion:

- Heaven and earth will pass away:

Careers will end

Bodies will fail

Systems will collapse

But the Word of God stands forever.

- The most important question is not what do you own? It is: Are you standing on the Word?

- Stand on the Word for salvation

- Stand on the Word for deliverance

- Stand on the Word for your future
