If God Be for Us, Who Can Be Against Us
Study Text: Romans 8:31
Introduction:
- Paul’s triumphant question is not denial of opposition; it is declaration of divine advantage.
- Enemies may arise, challenges may persist, but when God is for a person, the outcome is settled in his favour.
- This message affirms our confidence, courage, and conquest in God’s backing against all challenges and oppositions.
- So, as believers, we don't need to struggle for protection or defense against the enemy, we only need to strife to maintain a healthy relationship with God at all times.
- This is because, when the way of a man pleases the Lord, He makes even his enemy to be at peace with him.
- We shall be discussing the topic under three subheadings:
1. The Position of Divine Favour
2. The Power of Divine Backing
3. The Promise of Divine Victory
1. The Position of Divine Favour
- “If God be for us…” speaks of the position where we stand in God’s plan.
- To be “for” someone means to be on the side of the person for his good and favour, to support, defend, and promote the person.
- Believers are positioned in Christ (Ephesians 1:3), surrounded by God’s favour like a shield. Psalms 5:12
- You are not neutral in the spirit realm as a child of God; you are endorsed by heaven and highly favoured by God.
- The truth is: Favour does not eliminate battles; it guarantees victory. God's presence does not means absence of troubles, challenges or oppositions of the enemy, but it assures unbeatable victory that makes the believer more than a conqueror.
- You need to be assured in God that you are divinely positioned for help, honour, and supernatural lifting.
- David had this assurance when he says: Though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for God is with me.
- So, you may face several challenges or oppositions in life, but none can overpower you when God is on your side.
2. The Power of Divine Backing
- “Who can be against us?” Not who will be against us, but who can prevail against us. Isaiah 54:17
- Opposition is real, but power is unequal. God is the all in all, the Almighty and the Mighty One in battle, no power can withstand Him. Ephesians 6:10-12
- Pharaoh opposed Israel, Goliath opposed David, Harman opposed Mordecai, but in all the cases, those on the side of God always enjoyed the victory.
- When God backs you, resistance becomes irrelevant. Opposition without God’s approval cannot stand.
- When Jehoshaphat was confronted by group of associated enemies, he turned to God, and God took over the battle and the victory was unimaginable.
- With God on your side, you need to always go with the confidence that you are more than a conqueror, and every force contending with your destiny can never prevail against you.
3. The Promise of Divine Victory
- “We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” Romans 8:37
- Victory is not future tense; it is present reality. We are not fighting for victory, but we are moving from victory to victory through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- More than conquerors means we win without loss, we walk without fear, and we wrestle without retreat.
- God’s love guarantees His commitment to our triumph. God does not fight to lose; He fights to win.
- In Christ, believers should have the confidence and assurance of everlasting victory in all situations and at all times.
- In Christ you stand, with Christ you overcome, by Christ you advance, and through Christ you prevail.
Conclusion:
- If God be for us:
- Fear has no voice,
- Failure has no hold,
- Enemies have no final say.
- Lift your head, strengthen your faith, and move forward with boldness. Heaven is on your side.
- By the authority of God’s Word, God is for you, therefore you will not fail.
- Every opposition turns into promotion in your life. Go and walk in victory, favour, and divine backing, now and always in Jesus name. Amen.
