Summary: What you see you believe, what you believe you behave, What you behave you become.

Text: Joshua 14:6-15 Numbers 13 1 -16:25-End

BACKGROUND

Joshua and Caleb were part of the Exodus from Egypt and were with Moses.

Moses sent twelve spies to scout the land of Canaan.

- The Spies' Report

Joshua and Caleb reported that the land was excellent, "flowing with milk and honey" and possessing abundant fruit.

The other ten spies focused on the strong inhabitants and fortified cities, instilling fear in the Israelites.

Caleb encouraged the Israelites to go forward, expressing confidence in God's ability to help them conquer the land.

Caleb and Joshua were two Israelite spies sent by Moses to explore the Promised Land, who returned with a positive report about its fertility, contrasting with the fear-mongering of the other spies.

While the other spies spread a negative report, leading to God's judgment that their generation would wander in the wilderness, Joshua and Caleb's faith allowed them to enter the land.

Joshua eventually became the leader of the Israelites, succeeding Moses and leading them into the Promised Land, while Caleb, who was still strong at age 85, also successfully conquered his allotted portion of the land

GOD'S JUDGMENT AND REWARD

The Israelites listened to the negative report and rejected Joshua and Caleb's faith-filled counsel.

Because of their lack of faith, the generation of Israelites who had left Egypt was condemned to wander in the wilderness for 40 years.

Only Joshua and Caleb, who showed "tenacious faith and patience," were allowed to enter the Promised Land.

The Next Generation

After Moses died, Joshua became the new leader of the Israelites.

Joshua, demonstrating his faith, led the people into the Promised Land.

Caleb, still strong at 85 years old, was granted his portion of the land, conquering the area of Hebron.

INTRODUCTION

Caleb, who asked Joshua for his allotted inheritance of the hill country of Hebron after the Israelites entered Canaan.

Caleb's request was based on a promise God made to him decades earlier and was a demonstration of his strong faith in God's ability to fulfill His promises, even in the face of challenging obstacles like giants inhabiting the fortified cities.

The Biblical Story Of Caleb:

The Promise:

Forty-five years before this event, Caleb, then 40 years old, had been sent by Moses to spy out the land of Canaan.

While most spies brought back a fearful report, Caleb, along with Joshua, had faith that God would give them the land.

The Inheritance:

At age 85, Caleb requested the land of Hebron, the "hill country" where the Anakim (giants) lived. He believed that God was with him and that he could dispossess the giants and claim the land, just as the Lord promised.

THE OUTCOME:

Joshua blessed Caleb and granted him Hebron as his inheritance. Caleb then drove out the giants and took possession of the land, fulfilling God's promise to him.

A "Different Spirit":

Caleb is described as having a "different spirit" for fully following the Lord, a spirit that led him to claim what God had promised him.
