Then Naomi said, “Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out; for the man will not rest until he has concluded the matter this day” Ruth 3:18
Ruth 3 and 4 talks about a marriage proposal where neither the bride nor bridegroom were aware of it. The bride was unaware it was her marriage proposal, and the bridegroom also was unaware it was his marriage proposal. Imagine a situation like this. It was wonderfully orchestrated by Naomi with the help of Holy Spirit. Only Holy Spirit can orchestrate or plan such a wonderful and beautiful situations or circumstances. Only Holy Spirit can give the best and only solution to such a very complex situation, and this solution will have Jesus at the centre of it.
Despite being one of the kinsman redeemers, Boaz did nothing to address Ruth and Naomi's situation. He remained silent because another close relative was supposed to redeem Ruth. Another close relative who was supposed to redeem Ruth was unable to do so because doing so would ruin his existing inheritance. Due to the complexity of the issue, neither Boaz nor the close relative took any steps (were quiet) to redeem Elimelech's inheritance. Both of them remained silent for many days on Ruth’s situation. Holy Spirit orchestrated this complex situation (that was on hold for many days) in such a beautiful way that within few days Ruth was redeemed.
The bride wore her best garments and went to a marriage proposal without knowing who the bridegroom Is. The bridegroom is unaware that is this his last night as a bachelor. Ruth, the bride, went to an uninvited party to lay down at the feet of Boaz. She laid or put down her reputation and prestige to lay down at the feet of Boaz. At Boaz's feet, she sacrificed her position and reputation. Ruth's reputation will be ruined if people found out what she did. She kept her trust on Naomi to blindly follow what she suggested without asking any questions.
Ruth wore her best garments to sleep at the feet of Boaz under the guidance of Naomi. Ruth represents us and Naomi is a representation of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit always points us to the feet of Jesus and once we are at His feet, he will take necessary action and do the needful. What I learned in life (when things are not going our way), is that we need to calm down and hear the still voice of the Holy Spirit and practice to stay at the feet of Jesus and let him decide our next course of action. When Boaz saw Ruth at his feet, it caused a divine unrest which led him to resolve Ruth’s situation within the next few days. Boaz experienced a divine unrest upon seeing Ruth at his feet, which prompted him to find a solution to Ruth's situation within the following few days.
Seeing Ruth at his feet, created unrest in Boaz, imagine how much unrest would it cause to Jesus when we are at his feet. If we are the feet of Jesus surrendering our life, it creates a divine unrest in Jesus to do a miracle in our lives. Additionally, it also creates a timeline for the miracle, which can range from a few days to an instant.
Today if you have any unfulfilled promise (which is stagnant for many months or years), ask the help of the Holy Spirit to guide you to the steps necessary to fulfil it with Jesus at centre. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead us to the feet of Jesus and let him determine the next course of action. The Holy Spirit always points us to Jesus and Jesus fulfils the promise. Jesus fulfils the promise when the Holy Spirit leads us to him. The promise which was put on hold for many days or years can come back to life when we are the feet of Jesus.
Sometimes when we don’t know what to do next or we don’t have a plan of action– just lay down at the feet of Jesus until the night passes away and let him decide the next steps. Sometimes the best course of action is to simply lay down at Jesus' feet till the night is over and let him determine what to do next . The best and safest place in the entire universe is to be at the feet of Jesus.
