Stand with me and lift your Bible and repeat after me.
This is my Bible.
I am what it says I am.
I can do what it says I can do.
I am going to learn how to be what it says I can be.
Today I will learn more of the living God.
The indestructible, never ending, living word of God.
I will never be the same.
I will never be the same.
In Jesus name.
Turn with me in your Bible to Psalm 142 and say, "Amen" when you are there.
“WHEN THE CAVE BECOMES THE PLACE OF BREAKTHROUGH. "Psalm 142*
Every follower of Christ will eventually walk through a cave season — a season where the light seems dim, the way seems unsure, and the heart feels overwhelmed.
Psalm 142 is not written from the palace…
Not written from victory…
Not written in peace…
It is written from a cave — a literal place of darkness, fear, uncertainty, and isolation.
Yet this is also where David experienced God in ways that shaped his destiny.
Your cave may look different:
* A health crisis
* A financial burden
* A broken relationship
* A moment of loneliness
* A season of discouragement
* A time of waiting
* A struggle no one else knows about
But here’s the good news:
**God does some of His greatest work in caves.**

DAVID’S JOURNEY TO THE CAVE OF ADULLAM
Before we read Psalm 142, remember where David is:
He had served faithfully in Saul’s court
He had won battles for Israel
He had done nothing wrong — but Saul’s jealousy drove him out
He fled for his life
He ended up alone in a cave, exhausted, confused, and hunted
It is here — in the shadows — that David prays Psalm 142.
This is not the prayer of a king.
This is the prayer of a man with nowhere to go but God.
PSALM 142 verses 1-7
“I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy.”
“When my spirit grows faint within me, it is You who know my way.”
“No one cares for my life.”
“You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
“Set me free from my prison, that I may praise Your name.”
1. DAVID’S HONEST CRY (v.1–2)
“I cry aloud… I pour out my complaint before Him.”
David doesn’t pray soft prayers.
He prays real prayers.
He doesn’t hide his emotions from God.
He pours them out.
Many believers feel guilty for being honest with God.
But the cave teaches us this truth:
God can handle your truth.
He can handle your pain.
Your frustration.
Your confusion.
Your tears.
Your questions.
God is not looking for polished prayers — He’s looking for **honest hearts.
Cave seasons strip away fake religion and reveal real relationship.
2. DAVID FELT FORGOTTEN, BUT GOD WAS NEAR (v.4)
“Look and see, there is no one at my right hand… no one cares for my life.”
This is loneliness at its peak.
David says:
“No one sees me.
No one cares.
No one stands with me.”
But when everyone else walked out, God walked in.
Your cave does not prove God abandoned you.
It proves God is preparing you.
3. GOD KNOWS THE PATH YOU CANNOT SEE (v.3)
“When my spirit grows faint within me, it is You who know my way.”
David doesn’t know what to do next.
But God does.
The path may be confusing to you, but it is clear to God.
He sees…
What you don’t see
What’s around the corner
What is being prepared
What doors will open
What miracles are forming
What blessings are coming
You may be in the dark, but God is not.
4. DAVID DECLARES HIS FAITH (v.5)
“You are my refuge and my portion.
David says:
“Even here — in the cave — You are enough.”
Not the crown.
Not the palace.
Not the applause.
Not the approval of others.
God alone is my portion.
The cave teaches us that the presence of God is not dependent on our surroundings.
When God is all you have, you discover He is all you need.
5. DAVID EXPECTS DELIVERANCE (v.7)
“Set me free… then the righteous will gather around me.”
David sees the future from inside the cave.
He sees a day when…
God rescues him
God leads him out
God restores him
God surrounds him with people who believe in him again
Your cave is temporary.
Your breakthrough is scheduled.
God is setting the stage for your victory while you worship in the cave.
A young missionary couple moved to a remote island to translate Scripture and plant a church. What they expected to take months took years.
They battled:
Illness
Loneliness
Slow progress
Constant discouragement
A sense of failure
One night, after a year of little fruit, the husband wrote in his journal:
“Lord, I feel like David in the cave.
No direction.
No results.
No strength left.”
They decided they were done.
They packed their bags.
They planned to head home.
The next morning, as they were preparing to leave, an older local man knocked on their door. With tears in his eyes he said:
“We’ve been waiting for someone to teach us God’s Word.
Don’t leave the cave — God is here.”
That one conversation changed everything.
They stayed.
Within two years:
Over 60 people came to Christ
A church was planted
Leaders were trained
Scripture was translated
A revival broke out
Years later, the missionary said:
Had we left the cave, we would’ve missed the breakthrough.”
WHAT TO DO IN YOUR CAVE SEASON
1. Cry out honestly
God can heal what you reveal.
2. Trust God even when you don’t feel Him
He knows the way you cannot see.
3. Declare God’s promises over your situation
Speak faith even when your feelings disagree.
4. Worship in the dark
Worship turns caves into sanctuaries.
5. Expect God to bring you out
Breakthrough begins with belief.
ALTAR CALL: “STEP OUT OF THE CAVE TODAY”
If you are going through:
discouragement
fear
anxiety
a broken relationship
a health battle
financial stress
depression
a heavy burden
or you just feel lost…
This message is for you.
Today, God is calling you OUT of your cave and INTO His presence.
And if you have drifted from God…
If you feel far from Him…
If you’ve never surrendered your life to Jesus…
Then today is the day of salvation.
This is your moment.
This is your breakthrough.
This is your new beginning.
Come.
Step out of the cave.
PRAYER OF SURRENDER
“Lord Jesus,
I come out of the cave today.
I bring You all my pain, fear, and sin.
Forgive me.
Heal me.
Restore me.
I believe You died and rose again.
I give You my life.
Lead me into Your purpose.
I belong to You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”
PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCE & BREAKTHROUGH
Father, in the mighty name of Jesus,
I pray over every burdened heart, every discouraged spirit, every weary soul.
Lord, lighten their load.
Break every chain.
Heal every wound.
Silence every lie of the enemy.
Let Your presence fill the cave with Your light.
Bring direction where there has been confusion.
Bring peace where there has been anxiety.
Bring hope where there has been despair.
Bring strength where there has been weakness.
Bring freedom where there has been bondage.
Lord, lead Your people out.
Set their feet on solid ground.
Surround them with the righteous.
Restore joy.
Restore purpose.
Restore faith.
In Jesus’ powerful name,
Amen.
Before David ever held the crown,
he survived the cave.
So will you.
You are coming out.
Your cave is becoming a classroom.
Your tears are becoming testimonies.
Your pain is becoming purpose.
Your breakthrough is coming.
And your story is not over.
The cave was never the destination — it was preparation.
