“Go Home and Tell What the Lord Has Done”

Mark 5:19 “But Jesus said to him, ‘Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.’” — Mark 5:19

-THE POWER OF A TRANSFORMED LIFE

Every believer carries something more powerful than a sermon, more persuasive than an argument, and more impactful than a program — your testimony.

Your story of what God has done in your life is something hell cannot silence, the world cannot deny, and even your enemies cannot refute. Because it’s personal. It’s real. It’s alive.

In Mark 5, Jesus gives us one of the clearest pictures of the power of a transformed life. The man in this passage was not simply troubled — he was tormented. Not simply lost — he was spiritually bound. Not simply struggling — he was out of control, feared, and forgotten by society.

But after meeting Jesus… everything changed.

And the first thing Jesus told him wasn’t “join My disciples,” or “attend the synagogue,” or “start a new ministry.”

Instead, Jesus said:

“Go home… and tell your own people what I have done for you.”

Why?

Because your greatest mission field is often your home and the area where you live.

And your greatest message is often your testimony.

JESUS PURSUES THE ONES OTHERS AVOID

Mark 5 opens with the disciples stepping out of the boat onto the shores of the Gerasenes. Before they can even take in their surroundings, a wild, screaming, broken man comes running toward them.

Most people would’ve run away from him.

Jesus walked straight toward him.

The world avoids messy people.

Jesus runs to them.

Family may reject you.

Society may label you.

People may misunderstand you.

But Jesus always sees who you can become.

This man lived among the tombs — a place of death — yet Jesus brings him back to life.

He broke chains made of iron, but he couldn’t break the chains in his soul — until Jesus spoke one word of authority.

No amount of darkness can resist one moment in the presence of Jesus.

Some of you know what it feels like to be written off.

To be the one others are afraid of or don’t understand.

To feel out of place, out of control, or overlooked.

But the same Jesus who stepped onto that shore steps into your life today.

JESUS RESTORES COMPLETELY, NOT PARTIALLY

After healing the man, Scripture says he was found:

Sitting — once restless, now at peace

Clothed — once exposed, now covered

In his right mind — once tormented, now whole

This is not partial restoration. This is full transformation.

When Jesus heals, He heals deeply.

When He restores, He restores everything the enemy stole.

When He saves, He saves thoroughly.

Some people believe God will only “fix” certain parts of their life — but leave others untouched.

But the God who resurrects dead hearts does not do half-miracles.

You may have walked in with:

* anxiety

* addiction

* depression

* shame

* guilt

* discouragement

* confusion

* brokenness

But that is NOT how you have to leave today.

Because Jesus restores completely.

Your testimony is your story.

This man begged Jesus, “Let me go with You.”

But Jesus sent him home.

Why?

Because the people who knew his past needed to see his present miracle.

Some ministry happens in pulpits.

But most of the impactful ministry happens in:

* homes

* families

* workplaces

* neighborhoods

* communities

The people closest to you should hear the loudest testimony of what God has done.

Your testimony is the message someone else has been waiting to hear.

You don’t need a perfect life — you need a redeemed one.

You don’t need polished words — you need honest ones.

You don’t need a title — you need a story.

And you have one.

Let me share a true story of encouragement.

A man named Marcus had lived a life far from God. He grew up in church but ran hard in the opposite direction. Drugs, crime, violence — it all had a grip on him. His family had almost completely given up.

One night, after a fight that nearly cost him his life, he walked into a small church because he had nowhere else to go. He sat in the back, high, angry, confused, and empty.

During the message, the pastor stopped mid-sentence and said:

“There is someone here tonight who thinks God is done with him. He’s not done with you. He’s calling you home.”

Marcus felt like the pastor had read his mail.

He tried to leave — but instead, he found himself walking to the altar.

He surrendered.

He wept.

He let go.

God broke every chain that night.

But the real miracle happened weeks later.

Marcus felt embarrassed to tell his family what happened.

But finally he went home, sat in his mother’s kitchen, and told her everything.

She burst into tears and said:

“Son, I’ve prayed for this moment for 20 years.”

Months later, Marcus shared his testimony at a community event. People who knew him whispered, “Is that really him?”

But 11 men came forward for prayer that day.

One of them said a sentence I will never forget:

“If God can save him… maybe there’s hope for me.”

Your testimony is not about your past —

It is about God’s mercy in your present.

YOUR STORY CARRIES MERCY, NOT SHAME

Jesus told the man to tell two things:

1. How much the Lord has done for you

2. How He has had mercy on you

Notice Jesus didn’t say:

“Tell them how bad you were.”

“Tell them every detail of your past.”

“Tell them your failures.”

No — tell them **what I’ve done** and **how I’ve shown mercy.

Your testimony is not about glorifying your sin —

It is about glorifying your Savior.

The enemy wants your past to silence you.

Jesus wants your past to serve Him.

YOUR STORY CAN CHANGE A WHOLE REGION

Mark 5 ends with a powerful detail:

The man went and told his story — and the entire region was amazed.

One man became a missionary to 10 cities.

One testimony shook a whole region.

One life set on fire lit an entire community.

Jesus didn’t stay in that region —

He left one transformed man there as His representative.

What if God wants to do the same with you?

As we prepare our hearts, I want to invite you into a moment with the Lord.

This is not just a closing prayer — this is someone’s breakthrough moment.

Today, if you’re carrying:

* brokenness

* heaviness

* fear

* guilt

* a weary heart

* a story you’re afraid to share

* or a situation that feels too far gone

Come.

Maybe you’re like the man in Mark 5 — you’ve felt bound, isolated, or far from God.

Come.

Maybe you’ve been restored but you’re afraid to tell your testimony.

Come.

Maybe your family needs the miracle God gave that man — healing, unity, restoration.

Come.

Maybe you want boldness, courage, a fresh touch from God.

Come.

Maybe you’re saying:

“Lord, do in me what You did in him. Restore me completely.”

Then this altar is for you.

Come, and let the mercy of Jesus meet you.

Come, and let the presence of God restore you.

Come, and let the Holy Spirit remind you that your story matters.

Let Him heal.

Let Him restore.

Let Him break chains.

Let Him rewrite your story.

Let Him prepare you to go home… and tell what the Lord has done.

Amen.
