Summary: Trusting God when it matters leads to true thanksgiving

A Journey of Faith, Trust, and Obedience

Opening Story – The Broken Violin

There was once a world-class violinist preparing for a major concert in a grand auditorium. As the audience settled in, he stepped on stage—not with his elegant hand-crafted violin, but with an old, scratched, cracked one that looked like it belonged in a yard sale.

People whispered:

“That thing is worthless.”

“It’s broken.”

“Why would he use that?”

The violinist lifted the worn instrument, tuned one string, and began to play.

Church—the sound that came from that broken violin was so rich, so moving, so beautiful that people stood to their feet in tears.

Afterward someone asked, “Sir, why did you use that broken instrument?”

He smiled and said,

“Because in the hands of a master, even what’s been discarded can still make a beautiful sound.”

And that’s exactly what God does with us.

When life cracks…

When circumstances break…

When others count us out…

In the hands of the Master—your life can still produce something beautiful.

That’s the heart of this message:

I. A Declaration of Faith: God’s Got This

Our foundation:

Romans 8:28

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

This is a verse for the believer who doesn’t always understand the “why”—

but knows the “Who.”

This is for the believer who can’t see the end,

but trusts the One who stands at the end.

Three reasons we can say “God’s got this”:

1. God is already in the places we are worried about.

2. God specializes in turning messes into miracles.

3. God never wastes a tear, a trial, or a test.

Like a master builder, God uses everything—

the beautiful pieces and the painful pieces—

to create something we will be grateful for later.

Even the dark parts of our story are part of what God is shaping.

II. We Walk by Faith—Not by Sight

2 Corinthians 5:7

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Faith isn’t about seeing the road—it’s about trusting the Guide.

Faith isn’t waiting for perfect clarity—

faith is moving forward with perfect confidence in God.

Abraham teaches us this:

Genesis 15:6

“And he believed in the LORD…”

And James teaches us what that belief produces:

James 2:17

“…faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

Faith is a lifestyle.

Faith is motion.

Faith is obedience even when the outcome is hidden.

And as we live this way, something begins to grow in us—

a quiet strength, a steadiness in the storm,

and a heart that begins to see God’s goodness even in small things.

That’s when appreciation—the kind that lasts—starts to take root.

III. Obedience Today Prepares Us for Tomorrow

When God called Abraham:

Genesis 12:1-2

“Get out… to a land I will show you… I will bless you…”

Abraham wasn’t given a map—he was given a promise.

He wasn’t given the details—he was given direction.

He wasn’t given certainty—he was given a call to obedience.

And his obedience laid the foundation for every blessing that would come after.

Church—obedience does more than get us through the moment.

It prepares us for what God has ahead.

Obedience builds spiritual muscle.

Obedience develops maturity.

Obedience positions us for what we can’t yet see.

And all along the way, obedience teaches us to notice God’s hand in our life—

and when you notice God’s hand, gratitude becomes natural.

IV. When the Storm Comes—Know Your Refuge

David said:

Psalm 62:8

“Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge…”

David didn’t just call God a refuge—

he knew God as his refuge.

The difference?

He walked with God daily.

Before the giant—David walked with God.

Before the crown—David walked with God.

Before the cave—David walked with God.

We have to be in the walk when the problems arrive, be prepared. We get mad at God all to much because we try and walk with him in the mist of our problems not when things are going good.

And because he walked with God consistently,

he could rest in God confidently.

When storms come—and they will—

we stand firm not because life is easy,

but because we know where to run.

Those who run to God often find themselves reflecting on His goodness afterward—

sometimes with a deeper appreciation than before the storm came.

V. Faith Produces Trust… Trust Produces Peace… Peace Produces Gratitude

You don’t have to force gratitude.

You don’t have to manufacture praise.

You don’t have to pretend joy.

These things naturally grow in a heart that:

• Walks by faith

• Trusts God’s timing

• Obeys God’s direction

• Rests in God’s character

Faith leads to trust.

Trust leads to peace.

Peace leads to a thankful spirit.

Not a seasonal thankfulness—

a lifestyle of thankfulness.

Thankfulness that doesn’t depend on circumstances

but comes from recognizing the goodness of God every day.

When you can look at your life—

your trials

your blessings

your challenges

your victories—

and still say “God’s got this,”

you’re developing the kind of gratitude that honors God.

VI. The Final Proof—Jesus Got Up

If you ever doubt whether God's got this—

look to the empty tomb.

The disciples didn’t understand Friday.

They didn’t understand Saturday.

But Sunday answered every question they had.

Because Jesus got up:

Hope got up.

Joy got up.

Peace got up.

Victory got up.

And because He lives—

you can face tomorrow with confidence.

You can trust Him with the unknown.

You can rest in His plan.

You can walk forward with expectation.

And you can say with bold assurance:

“I KNOW God’s got this.”

Conclusion

Church…

Faith opens the door.

Obedience walks the path.

Trust keeps us steady.

Peace fills our heart.

And a spirit of gratefulness begins to rise within us day by day.

No matter what you’re facing…

No matter how heavy it feels…

No matter how uncertain the future seems…

Lift your head.

Lift your eyes.

Lift your heart.

And declare:

“I KNOW God’s got this.”
