JESUS OUR SOON COMING KING

INTRODUCTION:
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is one of the most glorious promises of the Christian faith. It is the blessed hope of the Church and the ultimate fulfilment of God’s redemptive plan. When Jesus ascended into heaven, the angels declared that He would return in like manner. This truth reminds us that history is not random, it is moving toward a divine conclusion when Christ will reign as King of kings and Lord of lords.
In His first coming, Jesus came as a humble servant, born in a manger to save humanity from sin. But in His second coming, He will appear as a reigning King, clothed in majesty and splendour, to judge the nations and reward the righteous. His return will bring an end to evil, establish justice, and usher the saints into eternal glory.
As believers, we must live in constant readiness, walking in holiness, obedience, and faithfulness. The signs of His return are visible all around us: wars, moral decay, lawlessness, and spiritual coldness. The coming of the King is near, and every true Christian must be prepared to meet Him in glory.
1. JESUS WILL RETURN AS KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
The return of Christ will be visible, glorious, and undeniable. Every eye will see Him as He comes in majesty to reign forever.
a) The Certainty of His Return (Acts 1:11): The angels confirmed that the same Jesus who ascended into heaven will return in the same manner. His coming is not a myth but a divine certainty.
b) The Glory of His Appearing (Matthew 24:30): He will come in great power and glory, accompanied by His holy angels, to gather His elect and judge the nations.
c) The Kingship of Christ (Revelation 19:16): On His robe and thigh is written “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” No power or ruler can compare to His eternal dominion.
d) The End of All Earthly Kingdoms (Daniel 2:44): His kingdom will crush all others and stand forever, unshaken and unchallenged by human authority.
Biblical Example: When Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, the people shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Matthew 21:9). That entry foreshadowed His ultimate triumphant return as King of Glory.
2. THE PURPOSE OF HIS COMING
Jesus is coming again not only to take His bride, the Church, but also to establish righteousness and justice upon the earth.
a) To Gather His Saints (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17): The trumpet shall sound, and the dead in Christ shall rise first, then we who are alive shall be caught up together to meet the Lord in the air.
b) To Judge the Wicked (2 Corinthians 5:10): Every man shall appear before the judgment seat of Christ to give account of his deeds, both good and bad.
c) To Reward the Faithful (Revelation 22:12): Jesus will honour every act of service, sacrifice, and obedience done in His name. Nothing done for Christ will be forgotten.
d) To Establish His Eternal Kingdom (Revelation 11:15): The kingdoms of this world shall become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever.
Biblical Example: In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), the faithful servants were rewarded upon the master’s return. In the same way, when Jesus returns, He will reward those who have served Him faithfully.
3. SIGNS THAT POINT TO HIS RETURN
The signs of Christ’s coming are clear and fulfilment of prophecy is unfolding before our eyes.
a) Spiritual Decline (2 Timothy 3:1-5): Men shall be lovers of themselves, disobedient to parents, unholy, and without natural affection.
b) Increase in Knowledge and Global Awareness (Daniel 12:4): Knowledge has increased tremendously in this generation, signalling the nearness of the end.
c) Wars, Famines, and Earthquakes (Matthew 24:6-7): The rise of conflicts, natural disasters, and global unrest all point to the end-time prophecy.
d) The Preaching of the Gospel (Matthew 24:14): The gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world as a witness before the end shall come.
Biblical Example: Noah’s generation ignored the warnings of coming judgment (Genesis 6-7). In like manner, many today mock the message of Christ’s return, but the wise prepare their hearts for the coming King.
4. HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE COMING KING
The return of Christ demands spiritual alertness, moral purity, and steadfast faith.
a) Live a Holy Life (1 John 3:2-3):
Everyone who has this hope purifies himself even as Christ is pure. Holiness is the believer’s preparation for the King’s arrival.
b) Be Watchful and Prayerful (Luke 21:36): Watch and pray always, that you may be counted worthy to escape the coming judgment and stand before the Son of Man.
c) Remain Faithful in Service (Matthew 24:45-46):
Blessed is the servant whom the Master finds faithful when He returns. Stay consistent in serving God’s purpose.
d) Keep Your Lamp Burning (Matthew 25:1-13):
Like the wise virgins, keep your spiritual fire burning, for you do not know the hour when the Bridegroom will come.
Biblical Example: The Apostle Paul lived daily in readiness for Christ’s return, saying, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
CONCLUSION:
The return of Jesus Christ is not a distant event, it is a divine certainty drawing near with each passing day. As believers, we must not be distracted by the world’s pleasures or overwhelmed by its challenges. Instead, we should live in constant expectation, knowing that our King is coming to reward the faithful and reign forever.
Let every believer examine their heart, renew their commitment, and live in righteousness. When Jesus returns, may He find us faithful, holy, and ready to reign with Him in eternal glory.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Thank You, Lord, for the blessed hope of Your soon return.
2. Father, help me to live daily in readiness for the return of my King.
3. Lord, purify my heart from every sin and distraction that may hinder me from entering Your kingdom.
4. Father, give me grace to remain faithful and steadfast in my walk with You.
5. Lord, let me not be found sleeping when You return. Keep me watchful and prayerful.
6. Lord Jesus, prepare Your Church and awaken Your people to holiness and repentance.
7. Father, let every power of worldliness and compromise lose its hold over my life.
8. Lord, empower me to serve You faithfully until the day of Your appearing.
9. Father, make me a soul winner who helps others prepare for the coming King.
10. Lord, when You return, count me worthy to reign with You forever.
