Galatians 4 v 21 - 31 Legality verses Liberty
The Law Confronted
In Grace - 21 Tell me,
In Grit - ye that desire to be under the law,
In Grief - do ye not hear the law?
The Law Contrasted
Two Different Sons - 22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons,
Two Different Mothers - the one by a bondmaid,
the other by a freewoman.
Two Different Births -
23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh;
but he of the freewoman was by promise.
Two Different Covenants -
24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants;
Two Different Mountains -
The Place - the one from the mount Sinai,
The Problem - which gendereth to bondage,
The Person - which is Agar.
The Picture - 25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is,
The Position - and is in bondage with her children.
Two Different Outcomes -
One is Bound - 25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
One is Blessed -
26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
The Law Concluded -
The Promise - 27 For it is written,
The Profit - Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not;
The Praise - break forth and cry, thou that travailest not:
The Produce - for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
The Proof - 28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
The Law Conflicted
The Background - 29 But as then
The Battleground - he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit,
The Showground - even so it is now.
The Law Condemned
The Word - 30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture?
The Work - Cast out the bondwoman and her son:
The Warning - for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
The Law Confounded By A -
New Life - 31 So then, brethren,
New Lord - we are not children of the bondwoman,
New Law of Liberty - but of the free.
