Summary: Glorious Freedom

Galatians 2 v 11 - 21 Glorious Freedom

The Contention -

The Time - 11 But when Peter was come to Antioch,

The Task - I withstood him to the face,

The Truth - because he was to be blamed.

The Convention -

The Past 12 For before that certain came from James

The Partnership - he did eat with the Gentiles:

The Parting - but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself

The Prejudice - fearing them which were of the circumcision.

The Confusion -

The Division - 13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him;

The Diversion - insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away

The Deception - with their dissimulation.

The Confrontation -

It was Personal - 14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly

It was Painful - according to the truth of the gospel,

It was Purposeful - I said unto Peter before them all,

It was Practical - If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews,

It was Powerful - why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

The Contradiction -

Their Past - 15 We who are Jews by nature,

Their Privilege - and not sinners of the Gentiles,

Their Perception - 16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ,

Their Persuasion - even we have believed in Jesus Christ,

Their Possession - that we might be justified by the faith of Christ,

Their Profession - and not by the works of the law:

Their Proclamation - for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

The first is General -

16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law,

The second is Personal - even we have believed in Jesus Christ,

that we might be justified by the faith of Christ,

The third is Universal - for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified

The Law -

Confines - Romans 3:19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law:

Confounds - that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Confutes - 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight:

Confronts - for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Conforms - 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets, Mat 17:1-8

Confirms - 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: Confesses - 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: .....

Conflicts - 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

The Condition -

The Search - 17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ,

The Sin - we ourselves also are found sinners,

The Saviour - is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

The Condemnation -

The Resolve - 18 For if I build again

The Ruins - the things which I destroyed,

The Result - I make myself a transgressor.

The Response - 19 For I through the law am dead to the law,

The Release - that I might live unto God.

The Crucifixion -

It's Personal - 20 I am crucified with Christ:

It's Practical, nevertheless I live Powerful, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me

It's Perpetual - and the life which I now live in the flesh

It's Profitable - I live by the faith of the Son of God,

It's Purposeful - who loved me, and gave himself for me.

The Conclusion -

Revere Grace - 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God

Respect Guidance - for if righteousness come by the law,

But Receive God's Gift - then Christ is dead in vain.
