KEYS TO SUSTAINING HIGHER DIMENSIONS OF THE SUPERNATURAL
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: John 15:4-5
Key Verses: “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5)
Supporting Texts: 2 Timothy 1:6; Jude 1:20; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Hebrews 12:1-2
INTRODUCTION:
It is one thing to taste the supernatural, but it is another thing to sustain it as a lifestyle. Many believers have experienced God’s power in different dimensions, yet some could not maintain the flow because of lack of discipline, spiritual dryness, or distractions. God’s desire is not that we only encounter Him once in a while, but that we live in a constant realm of His supernatural presence and power.
Sustaining higher dimensions of the supernatural requires intentionality. Just as fire on the altar must be kept burning without going out, so must a believer keep the flame of the Spirit alive through daily fellowship, obedience, and spiritual practices. The supernatural is not a one-time event; it is a daily walk with God.
In this study, we will explore the keys that ensure believers remain carriers of God’s power and vessels of His glory without losing the fire.
1. CONSISTENT FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
Supernatural dimensions are sustained by constant connection with the Source.
a) Abiding in Christ (John 15:4-5): Staying connected to the Vine ensures continuous flow of divine life.
b) Daily prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17): Prayer is the oxygen of the supernatural life.
c) Word meditation (Joshua 1:8): The Word nourishes and renews supernatural strength.
d) Worship lifestyle (Psalm 22:3): Worship attracts God’s manifest presence continually.
Biblical Example: Daniel sustained a supernatural life through his unwavering prayer life (Daniel 6:10).
2. GUARDING AGAINST SPIRITUAL COMPLACENCY
The supernatural fades when believers become lukewarm or careless.
a) Avoiding spiritual pride (Proverbs 16:18): Pride leads to downfall and loss of grace.
b) Staying spiritually hungry (Matthew 5:6): Hunger keeps the fire alive.
c) Fleeing distractions (Hebrews 12:1): Weights and sins hinder supernatural flow.
d) Humility before God (James 4:6): Humble vessels sustain divine empowerment.
Biblical Example: King Saul lost the supernatural anointing due to pride and disobedience (1 Samuel 15:26).
3. STIRRING UP THE GIFT OF GOD WITHIN
The supernatural must be stirred continually to remain active.
a) Prayer in the Spirit (Jude 1:20): Builds spiritual capacity and keeps fire burning.
b) Prophetic declarations (Ezekiel 37:7): Speaking life sustains supernatural realities.
c) Fanning spiritual gifts (2 Timothy 1:6): Spiritual gifts must be stirred and exercised.
d) Bold faith actions (James 2:26): Faith in action sustains the miraculous.
Biblical Example: Paul consistently stirred his gifts, which kept the supernatural flowing in his ministry (Acts 19:11-12).
4. WALKING IN OBEDIENCE TO DIVINE INSTRUCTIONS
Sustaining the supernatural depends on continuous obedience to God.
a) Obedience preserves power (Deuteronomy 28:1): God’s blessings rest on the obedient.
b) Sensitivity to the Spirit (Romans 8:14): Being led by the Spirit sustains divine flow.
c) Avoiding compromise (Psalm 1:1-3): A consecrated life sustains fruitfulness.
d) Obedience produces fresh encounters (John 2:5): Following instructions leads to continuous miracles.
Biblical Example: The widow in Zarephath obeyed Elijah’s instruction and sustained supernatural provision (1 Kings 17:13-16).
5. FELLOWSHIP WITH OTHER BELIEVERS
The supernatural thrives in corporate fellowship and unity of the Spirit.
a) Iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17): Fellowship strengthens supernatural fire.
b) Corporate prayer (Acts 4:31): United prayers release fresh power.
c) Accountability in fellowship (Hebrews 10:25): Keeps believers from drifting spiritually.
d) Learning from others’ grace (Romans 1:11-12): Impartation sustains supernatural growth.
Biblical Example: The early church sustained supernatural power through constant fellowship and prayers (Acts 2:42-43).
6. MAINTAINING A LIFESTYLE OF CONSECRATION
The supernatural cannot be sustained in a polluted vessel.
a) Purity of heart (Matthew 5:8): Purity preserves God’s presence.
b) Separation from sin (2 Corinthians 6:17): Holiness sustains divine intimacy.
c) Continuous renewal (Romans 12:1-2): A consecrated life ensures fresh fire.
d) Dying to self (Galatians 2:20): Surrender to Christ sustains higher dimensions.
Biblical Example: Joseph sustained divine presence through consecration and became a carrier of supernatural wisdom (Genesis 39:9, 41:38).
CONCLUSION:
Sustaining higher dimensions of the supernatural requires more than occasional encounters. It demands a disciplined lifestyle of prayer, consecration, obedience, fellowship, and intimacy with God. Just as fire must be fed to keep burning, the supernatural life must be nourished continually.
When we guard against complacency, stir up spiritual gifts, and remain connected to God, we will not just taste the supernatural but live in it daily. The world is waiting for a Church that does not rise and fall but sustains the power of God consistently. May you be that vessel of continuous fire!
