Where the Spirit of the Lord Is, There Is Liberty
Study Text: 2 Corinthians 3:17
Introduction
People everywhere desire liberty: liberty from fear, sin, oppression, and limitations.
Paul reveals the source of true liberty: the Spirit of the Lord.
Liberty is not man-made; it is Spirit-given.
We shall be discussing the topic under three subheadings:
1. The Power of the Spirit
2. The Presence of the Spirit
3. The Pathways to Liberty of the Spirit
1. The Power of the Spirit
The Spirit is not a mere power, but a divine Person.
He is God’s presence with us (John 14:16–17).
Where He is honoured, liberty flows. The power made available by the Holy Spirit include:
1. Power over sin :
He frees us from guilt and condemnation (Romans 8:1–2).
2. Power over fear:
He gives us sonship, not slavery (Romans 8:15).
3. Power over Satan :
The anointing destroys the yoke (Isaiah 10:27).
2. The Presence of the Spirit
The presence of the Holy Spirit makes some provisions available:
1. He provides peace (Philippians 4:7).
2. He provides purity (Galatians 5:22–23).
3. He provides purpose (Acts 1:8 – power to witness).
The presence of the Holy Spirit is manifested in certain situations:
1. In worship – chains fall like in Paul and Silas’ story (Acts 16:25–26).
2. In prayer – He intercedes for us (Romans 8:26).
2. In partnership – He unites the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:3).
3. The Pathway to Liberty in the Spirit
In order to be a partaker of the liberty of the Holy Spirit, you need to follow the pathways:
1. Salvation:
Freedom starts with Christ (John 8:36).
2. Surrender:
Yield fully to His leading (Romans 12:1).
3. Spiritual infilling:
Be filled daily (Ephesians 5:18).
4. Steadfast fellowship:
Stay in prayer, Word, and community (Acts 2:42).
Conclusion
Where the Spirit is, there is Liberty: freedom from sin, fear, and Satan; freedom to live, love, and serve God.
The Spirit is God’s atmosphere of freedom.
Invite Him in, and every chain will be broken.
Prophetic Declaration: I declare in Jesus’ name, every yoke is destroyed, every fear is silenced, every bondage is broken: because where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty!
