walking in the Midst of Trouble
One of the Last messages we shared was on
Psalm 85:6
New American Standard Bible
Will You not revive us again, So that Your people may rejoice in You?
We had shared that this was a Psalm of Prayer and that we need to make this our prayer
It is a prayer of intensity, passion as the psalmist looked back at a time when life appeared much better.
In his book “Effective Praying” by Henry Frost
Teaching about prayer Refers to 1 Timothy 2:1 the word supplication as to
“a position of begging, a person sitting by the roadside having dressed in rags, having nothing no claims and completely dependent on the mercy of a passing King, no rights depending on the kindness of the King”
This would appear to be the attitude or position of this verse Psalm 85:6
Often times in life we find ourselves in a position of begging or perhaps another position “Lets make a Deal”
This morning, we want to look at another passage or section within the book of Psalms.
Psalm 138:7-8
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
You will revive me;
You will stretch out Your hand
Against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me.
8 The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
A s we peek into this Psalm it appears the writer has moved into a different position; something has taken place.
Maybe it was on the outside circumstances that had changed.
Maybe it was on the inside His spirit was encouraged by something
maybe he went to church
Somebody prayed for him
He heard a song
Spirit of the Lord fell fresh upon him.
He has moved from a place of begging to a place of declaration
1) Though I walk in the midst of trouble
a. Trouble all around me
b. Trouble to the left
c. Trouble to the right
d. trouble in front of me
e. trouble behind me
f. surrounded by TROUBLE
Maybe he got into
2 Kings 6:17
16So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
VS 18
So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, and said, “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
2) You will revive me
I Declare Lord you are good
you have always been good
you do not change
you will continue to be good to me
You will restore me
3) You will stretch out Your hand
Against the wrath of my enemies,
Praying this psalm I starting envisioning the left hand of God stretched out against my enemies
I know you are probably wondering why the left hand?
Because the next part of the verse states
And Your right hand will save me.
The right hand of God represents the Power and authority of God
Psalm 110:1
1The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”
4) 8 The Lord will perfect that which concerns me
What is your concern this morning?
Lord I need you to make this perfect
it concerns me and I am your son/daughter
I need you to perfect this situation I can’t do it but I know only you can.
Why should He do this you might ask?
Because
5) Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
Lord you made me you created me
I am yours you are mine
Your mercy endures forever
