Tarrying with the Tares
Matthew 13:24-32, 36-43
Tares and wheat are look-alike twins. Especially in the early stages. It is not until they have matured and the wheat is ready to be harvested, that the difference can be recognized.
Darnel - a poisonous weed that resembles wheat, but can cause great sickness and even death, if eaten.
It is called the evil twin of wheat. It is a mimic weed.
Interestingly enough, some have added it to beer or bread for an extra kick. When people eat its seed, they get dizzy, off-balance, and nauseous. Its official name comes from the latin word for "drunk". It is a toxic plant. It subvertly continues to reproduce by way of hiding amongst the harvest and then being replanted the following season.
Wheat grows from good seed -sown by Jesus.
The tares are evil seed, spread or sown by the enemy.
A dandelion can have up to 10 ft. depths of root.
Deal with the problem Fruit, Shoot, and Root.
The early church may have begun in Acts 2, but it didn't take long for the tares to show up in Acts 5.
Ananais and Saphira =tares in the early church
A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly (spiritual) meaning.
I. It is NOT a Time for Sleeping
Mt. 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
Ro 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
At its inception, the wheat and the darnel look identical.
In Bible times, when a person was endeavoring to get even with another person, one of their tactics was to cast darnel seed in their enemies' field.
Once it was sown, it would be present from generation to generation.
Mt. 13:28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
We cannot afford to be spiritually asleep in our churches. When complacency sets in, the seeds of worldiness and liberality slip in.
This is not to say that we don't want the church to grow. Everyone should be welcome to attend.
But it is completely different when we claim them as part of the true church.
II. It is Time to Abide in Christ
1Jo 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
2Th 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
2Ti 1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
If we become lax and unattentive, the tares will invade and have an undesired affect on the wheat.
Even since ancient times, some have baked with darnel seed (some intentionally, others intentionally). The result was "dazed bread". It would give a "high". Some of the fleshly senses were stimulated by it. But like so many drugs, an overdose could produce death.
That sounds like what has happened in too many churches today. Hype and emotional antics have come into our services and we confuse it with the anointing. We are moved by it and feel elated. Without discernment and biblical direction, we can become deceived, and in the end die spiritually.
So don't swallow what the tares are offering. It is toxic. But it has to be held at bay. We don't have to allow it on the platform or in any leadership position.
One study says that the consuming of darnel can make the eyes blurry. It can affect your spiritual vision and you may let some things slip in if you partake of it.
III. Tarry Until the End
Mt. 13:36-43
God in His wisdom gave orders to not pluck out the tares.
1. If we try to root out the tares, then there a high probability that good wheat will be uprooted also.
How many times have christians been hurt and ultimately lost due to the mishandling of matters regarding souls who are not living right.
2. There are many who seem to be tares right now, but over time will prove that they are wheat. They may just need some more teaching, counseling, and care to become golden wheat.
We must wait and tarry, staying faithful unto the end. At the appointed time, God will send His angels to do the separating.
