Series: Jesus- Son Of Man [#34]
HEALING AND DELIVERANCE THROUGH FAITH
Luke 9:37-50
Introduction:
Today, we are here to learn how faith in Jesus can bring us healing and freedom. In a World full of pain, sickness, and struggles, Jesus shows us that He has the power and love to help us. When we believe in Him and trust Him completely, His power can work in us to bring hope, healing, and new life.
As we look at this story, we will see how important it is to have real faith and to trust Jesus even when we are afraid or unsure. The story also teaches us that when many people believe together, their faith can help others too. Today, let’s open our hearts to receive the healing and freedom that come from trusting Jesus, and let’s ask Him to help us grow in faith so He can work miracles in our lives.
Luke 9:37-42
Jesus' authority…
1. Over spiritual oppression.
We see Jesus showing His power over spiritual darkness by healing and delivering a boy from an unclean spirit. The boy’s father asks Jesus to help, saying, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child." When Jesus commands the evil spirit to leave, it immediately obeys Him. This shows us that Jesus’ authority is greater than any evil force. Spiritually, this means Jesus is in charge of all powers of darkness, and His authority comes from being the Son of God. Practically, we can trust that Jesus has power over anything that might hold us back or hurt us today. When we pray in faith, we are calling on His authority to bring us freedom and healing, knowing He can cast out any darkness that tries to oppress us.
In our daily lives, this story teaches us to believe in Jesus’ authority over spiritual problems. Just like the father trusted Jesus enough to bring his son for help, we should bring our struggles, (like fear, addiction, or worry) to Jesus in prayer. Believing in His power gives us strength to stand firm, knowing that nothing is too difficult for Him. This passage also reminds us that prayer and trusting Jesus are important. We can pray confidently because Jesus’ authority is still active today. When we put our faith in Him, we can experience real freedom and victory through His power to heal and deliver us.
Luke 9:43-45
Jesus' authority…
2. To transform and restore.
We see Jesus showing His power to heal and set people free. His authority is real and active, not just something He talked about. It shows that Jesus is truly God’s Son and has power over sickness, evil spirits, and broken lives. His ability to heal proves that He has divine power to restore what is broken. For us today, this means that if we believe in Jesus, we can trust that His authority is also at work in us. Just as He healed the sick and cast out demons, we can pray and ask Jesus for help, knowing He has the power to change lives from sad to happy, from being trapped to being free.
Jesus’ authority also gives us a reason to help others. When we follow Him, we are called to share His love by healing and restoring those around us. This isn’t just something Jesus did long ago; His power continues through the Holy Spirit in us today. We are empowered to pray for others, bring hope, and help break spiritual strongholds. By working in Jesus’ authority, we can be part of His plan to bring healing and renewal to our communities and the world. This is how we show His love and help restore what has been broken.
Luke 9:46-48
Jesus' authority…
3. To empower His followers.
Jesus talks about how true greatness in His Kingdom comes from being humble and willing to serve others. Theologically, this shows us that Jesus’ authority is from God and is unlike anything else. Even though He has all power, Jesus chooses to use His authority to serve and help others, setting a perfect example for His followers. Practically, this teaches us that real authority in God's Kingdom isn’t about being powerful or famous, but about serving others with humility and faith. When we recognize Jesus’ divine authority, we’re encouraged to trust Him, knowing that our acts of kindness and service are part of His bigger plan and have eternal importance.
Additionally, Jesus mentions receiving a child in His name to show that God's authority is available to everyone who comes to Him with humility and childlike faith. Practically, this means believers can confidently trust in God's power, knowing even the humble or lowly are included. Theologically, it reminds us that Jesus gives His authority to His followers so they can continue His work of healing and delivering others. When believers operate in Jesus’ authority, they become instruments of God's power, bringing healing and freedom. True empowerment comes from trusting in Jesus and having a humble heart that’s ready to serve.
Luke 9:49-50
Jesus' authority…
4. To bring unity and inclusion.
Jesus shows His authority when He responds to the Disciples’ worry about others casting out demons in His name. He says, “Whoever is not against us is for us.” This means that Jesus’ authority helps us see that we should work together, even if others aren’t part of our group. Spiritually, this shows us that Jesus’ power is meant to bring people together, not divide them. Practically, it teaches us to be inclusive and encouraging to all believers, no matter their background or how they serve. When we remember that Jesus’ authority is about unity, we are more likely to work as one to help others through healing and deliverance, trusting that His power unites us for His purpose.
In our everyday lives, Jesus’ authority calls us to include others in His work, especially when it comes to healing and helping those in need. When we see other believers doing good in Jesus’ name, even if they aren’t part of our group, it reminds us that our main focus is on Jesus, not personal differences. This helps us be humble and work together better. It also encourages us to support each other in ministry, knowing that Jesus’ authority gives us the strength to do more together. When we stay united in Christ’s power, our actions reflect His love and purpose, making our Church stronger and more effective in helping others.
