REVEALING THE SON OF MAN’S GLORY
Luke 9:28-36
Introduction:
In the Gospel of Luke, the story of the Transfiguration is a special moment where Jesus’ true glory is shown to His closest followers. As Jesus climbs a mountain to pray, His appearance changes; He begins to shine with bright, heavenly light. During this time, He is seen talking with Moses and Elijah, who represent God's Law and the Prophets. This amazing moment helps us see how special Jesus really is and shows that He has divine power and a important mission. It also confirms that Jesus is the Savior who keeps God's promises, encouraging us to trust in His strength and plan.
This story invites us to think about how wonderful and powerful Jesus really is. The Transfiguration shows us that Jesus is truly the Son of God, shining with God's glory. It reminds us that His true glory is revealed not just in His miracles, but also in His suffering, death, and resurrection. It encourages us to look beyond what we see with our eyes and to believe in the hope and eternal life that Jesus offers through His divine glory as the Son of Man.

1. Divine glory through transformation.
The story of the Transfiguration shows us how Jesus' true divine glory is revealed. His appearance changes, and He shines with God's brightness, confirming that He is the Son of God. This moment reminds us that Jesus is not just a good teacher or prophet, but God’s own Son who has always shared in God's glory. One day, Jesus will show His full glory when He returns. For us, this means we can trust in His divine power and remember that His glory is eternal. When we face difficult times or need spiritual strength, we should look to Jesus and try to reflect His shining presence in our lives, knowing that His divine nature gives us hope and strength.
The Transfiguration also teaches us that we are called to change and become more like Christ. Just as Jesus was transformed to show His divine glory, we are invited to allow God's grace to transform us every day. This means growing in faith, living in ways that honor God, and letting His presence be seen in how we act and treat others. By seeking to know Jesus better and allowing His love to work in us, we become witnesses of His divine greatness. When we live with love, humility, and faith, we help others see His glory through us. This ongoing process of transformation helps us stay close to Jesus and prepare us for when He reveals His full glory in the future.

2. Presence and promise of God's favor.
The story of the Transfiguration shows us that God's favor is present and powerful. When Jesus' glory shines brightly on the mountain, Peter, James, and John see that Jesus is truly God's Son. This moment shows us that God is pleased with Jesus and that Jesus has special authority from God. For us, it reminds us that God's favor is with Jesus and that He approves of Him. This encourages us to trust God's plan, even when life is hard, because Jesus' glory shows that God's purpose is good and true. When we see God's favor in Jesus' Transfiguration, it invites us to seek God's presence in our lives, trusting that God blesses us as we follow Jesus.
This passage also gives us a hope for the future. The glory Jesus shows on the mountain points forward to when He will come again in glory, and God's Kingdom will be perfect forever. For us, this means we can keep going through difficult times, knowing that God's favor and blessing will be with us always. It encourages us to stay close to God through prayer, worship, and doing what is right. When we do this, we can live confidently, knowing that God's approval and promises are with us. God's favor gives us strength to live for Jesus and to look forward to the day when we will be with Him forever in His eternal Kingdom.

3. Voice of the Father and the path of obedience.
The voice of the Father in Luke 9:35 says, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him." This shows that Jesus is not just a good teacher or prophet, but God's own Son. The Father’s words remind us that Jesus has special authority and that we should pay attention to what He says. Spiritually, this tells us that Jesus’ obedience to the Father’s plan reveals His true glory. For us, it means we should listen carefully to Jesus’ words and try to follow His example. Just like the Disciples were told to listen to Jesus, we are called to have hearts that want to obey Him, trusting that His way is best and will lead us to true life and glory.
Practically, the Father’s voice teaches us how to hear God’s guidance today. In a busy world full of noise, it’s important to spend time praying, reading the Bible, and quieting our hearts so we can hear God’s voice. Obeying Jesus begins with listening to Him and recognizing His authority in our lives. When we respond in obedience, we become part of God's plan to show His glory through us- By loving others, sharing the Gospel, and growing in faith. The Father’s words remind us to focus on Jesus, to listen well, and to live in a way that shows His obedience and brings honor to God every day.
Conclusion:
