The Sufficiency of Christ Colossians 1:15–28
1. Let’s look and see clearly Jesus Christ who He Is
• He is not just a historical figure who had great influences
• He is not just a moral teacher He is not just a great Prophet, Priest or King
• There are a lot of uncertainties in this life but I am talking today about a certainty of a man named Jesus
2. There are some certain things we need to know today
• I am certain today that Jesus is the exact representation of God the Father 15 The Son is the image of the invisible God,
• I am Certain He Created all things all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
• I am certain that He is Preeminent has authority over all 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
• I am certain that He is the source and sustainer and savor of my soul
3. I am certain that Christ Is the Head of the Church and the Reconciler of All Things (vv. 18–20)
• “He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead.” (v. 18)
• Jesus leads the Church—through and by the Holy Spirit
• His resurrection means He is the first to rise, never to die again.
• Through His blood, shed on the cross, He reconciles all things—bringing peace between God and creation. He brings peace to your heart, your relationships, and your future.
4. I am certain The Gospel’s Transforms (vv. 21–23)
• “Once you were alienated from God... but now He has reconciled you.” (v. 21)
• Once We were once estranged, enemies in our minds and actions.
• But now, through Christ, we are holy, blameless, and free from accusation.
• Paul urges us to remain grounded in this hope—not shifting, not wavering.
• This is the heart of the gospel: transformation. Not just forgiveness, but a new identity. You are no longer defined by your past—you are defined by Christ.
5. I am certain of the great Mystery, the mission and Ministry “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (v. 27)
• Paul rejoices in his sufferings—not because they’re easy, but because they serve the Church.
• He speaks of a mystery now revealed: Christ dwelling in us.
• His mission—and ours—is to proclaim Christ, teach with wisdom,
6. I am Certain Christ Is Enough So what do we take away from this passage?
• Jesus is Lord of creation—He made us and sustains us.
• Jesus is Lord of the Church—He leads and loves His people.
• Jesus is Lord of reconciliation—He brings peace to our soul.
• Jesus is Lord of your future—He is our hope of glory.
• Let us fix our eyes on Him. Let us proclaim Him. Let us live in the fullness of His supremacy and sufficiency.
