Summary: Standing on the wall, even when the odds are against you.

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”

What a great day to Praise the Lord!

I mean what a mighty God we serve, and what a joyful occasion this is — two years of ministry, mission, and miracles.

Two years of praying, pressing, persevering, and praising through every high and every low.

May I tell you that today is not just an anniversary. But it’s a celebration of faithfulness — not just our faithfulness, but also God’s faithfulness.

As the text explains how Paul encouraged the church at Philippi, I want to do the same and encourage this house today:

If we were to read this Philippians 1:6 from the NIV it would read

“He who began a good work in you, will finish it.”

In other words, if God started it — He’s going to sustain it. And if He sustains it, He will surely grow it.

1. God Starts the Work

The fact that we are here today, celebrating two years, is proof that God planted something. Churches don’t start on their own. People don’t just come together without divine inspiration. There was a call, a vision, a burden, and then there was obedience.

Some people may have started in a living room, a storefront, or a borrowed space — but they started with purpose. In 2nd Samuel 7:5 God said, “Build Me a house to dwell in,” and we said “Yes, Lord.”

Every church planted in His name is a lighthouse — a beacon for the broken, the weary, and the lost. And we are proof that when God calls, He equips.

So, not only does God Starts the Work but-

2. God Sustains the Work

Let’s be honest: Year 1 is about surviving. We were trying to figure things out, patching things together, sometimes wondering if you heard God right. Going through the ridicule of people talking about us, calling us fools, some saying that we would be through in six months. But we kept going. Some tried to figure out ways to hinder us, but we didn’t fold. When the finances were tight, when attendance was low, when the critics came, they had to see the favor of God on our lives PTMC — we kept going.

Now we have crossed over into Year 2 — and we have discovered that God provides manna in the wilderness. We have seen Him meet the needs, we have seen the Lord send help, save souls, and build leaders.

Like the children of Israel in the desert, we may not have arrived in the promised land yet, but your shoes haven’t worn out, our clothing has not deteriorated, and our God has not let us down.

So, not only does God Starts the Work but-

3. God Finishes What He Starts

The most powerful part of Philippians 1:6 is whatever God promises, God finishes what He begins.

If the Lord planted the seed, He will bring the harvest.

If the Lord starts the flame, He will keep it burning.

This church, our church, your church is not a temporary work — it is a kingdom assignment, and God doesn’t abort missions He ordains them.

So, what does that mean for us going forward?

We must Expect growth. Not just in numbers, but also in impact.

We expect growth, then we must Expect opposition, because growth always stirs the enemy, but don’t be afraid. Because Romans 8:31 in the b clause says: If God be for us, who can be against us?"

Expect miracles. Because where God moves, the supernatural follows.

Expect greater. Because this is only the beginning.

And that reminds me of a story of a man who planted two seeds — one was an oak tree and the other was bamboo.

The oak tree sprouted quickly and grew strong and tall.

But the bamboo seed didn’t seem to do anything. Year after year — nothing.

The old man watered it, fertilized it, and watched it. Still nothing.

But after five long years, the bamboo suddenly broke through the ground — and within just six weeks, it grew over 90 feet tall.

You see, while it looked like nothing was happening, the bamboo was growing roots — deep and strong. It couldn’t grow-up, until it first grew down. Because it was being built to last.

Here is the encouragement:

Some people maybe have been wondering, “Why aren’t we further along?” or “Why is it taking so long?”

I came to tell you that it’s because we are bamboos.

God is still building our roots, strengthening our faith, anchoring our leaders, and laying a foundation that cannot be shaken.

And may I tell you that, it’s growing season.

Not just higher — but wider. Deeper. Stronger.

So, let’s celebrate this 2-year anniversary not just for what God has done — but for what He’s about to do.

Tell your neighbor, are built to last. And the best is yet to come.

Somebody help me to thank the Lord for what he has done, we thank You for two years of grace, of power, of progress.

We thank You for every soul touched, every prayer answered, and every seed sown.

And we believe that you are not done — You’re just getting started.

Let the favor of the Lord rest on this church.

Let Your fire never go out.

And let Your glory be seen in everything they do.
