INTRODUCTION:
There are moments in history and in our lives when God does not just speak from heaven—He comes down. When the Lord comes down, there is divine interruption, transformation, and a shift in the atmosphere. God’s descent into our situation is not casual; it is intentional and loaded with power, purpose, and deliverance.
In Exodus 3:7-8, God declared, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people… and I am come down to deliver them.” This was not just a comforting word—it was a divine invasion to break the chains of slavery and bring His people into a land of promise. When God comes down, oppression ends, healing flows, and His glory is revealed.
Today, we explore what happens when the Lord comes down. We will examine how to recognise such divine moments, how to prepare for them, and how to walk in the fullness of His presence when He comes.
1. GOD COMES DOWN IN RESPONSE TO SUFFERING AND CRYING
God is not distant or indifferent to our pain. He responds to our groaning.
a) He Sees Our Affliction (Exodus 3:7)
God is not blind to the trials of His children. He sees every tear and every burden.
b) He Hears Our Cry (Psalm 34:17)
The cries of the righteous reach the ears of the Lord and provoke divine action.
c) He Knows Our Sorrows (Isaiah 53:4)
He is acquainted with our grief and comes to share in our suffering.
d) He Comes Down to Deliver (Exodus 3:8)
God doesn’t just observe pain—He steps in to end it.
Biblical Example: In Judges 6:11-12, God came down to Gideon in Israel’s oppression and raised him as a deliverer.
2. WHEN GOD COMES DOWN, POWER IS RELEASED
His presence comes with might and supernatural manifestations.
a) Mountains Tremble Before Him (Isaiah 64:1-2)
Creation responds in awe to the tangible presence of the Almighty.
b) His Glory is Made Manifest (Exodus 40:34-35)
Where He descends, His glory fills the place beyond human control.
c) Enemies are Scattered (Psalm 68:1-2)
The presence of God brings confusion to the camp of the enemy.
d) Bondages are Broken (Nahum 1:13)
Chains are loosed when God steps into the situation.
Biblical Example: On Mount Sinai, when God came down, the mountain shook, and the people trembled (Exodus 19:16-20).
3. WHEN GOD COMES DOWN, DESTINIES ARE REVEALED AND ACTIVATED
God doesn’t just deliver; He commissions and empowers.
a) God Assigns New Purposes (Exodus 3:10)
Moses discovered his true assignment when God appeared to him.
b) Divine Encounters Lead to Destiny Shifts (Acts 9:3-6)
Paul was transformed from a persecutor to a preacher.
c) His Presence Breaks Fear and Builds Faith (Jeremiah 1:8-10)
God’s visitation strengthens us for the mission.
d) God Equips the Called (2 Timothy 1:7)
When He visits, He empowers with boldness and divine ability.
Biblical Example: Isaiah saw the Lord and received his prophetic commission (Isaiah 6:1-8).
4. WHEN GOD COMES DOWN, HE DWELLS AMONG HIS PEOPLE
His coming is not momentary—He desires habitation, not visitation.
a) Jesus is the Ultimate Expression of God Coming Down (John 1:14)
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
b) God Desires Communion, Not Just Rescue (Revelation 3:20)
He wants to dine with us and remain with us.
c) His Presence Transforms Atmospheres (Luke 7:14-15)
Jesus’ presence turned a funeral into a celebration of life.
d) He Walks Among the Churches Today (Revelation 2:1)
He is still present, observing, speaking, and empowering His church.
Biblical Example: At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came down and remained with the believers, birthing the Church (Acts 2:1-4).
CONCLUSION:
When the Lord comes down, things cannot remain the same. His descent signifies divine interest, intervention, and empowerment. Whether it is to deliver, restore, reveal, or dwell, His coming is always with purpose. The God who came down to deliver Israel is still coming down today to rescue, restore, and revive.
You must be spiritually sensitive and hungry for His presence. Cry out to Him. Prepare your heart. Welcome Him with faith and expectation. Because when He comes, chains break, callings emerge, and His glory is revealed in full measure.
