OUR HELP COMES FROM THE LORD

INTRODUCTION:
Life presents challenges that can often feel overwhelming and unending. In these trying seasons, many people look for solutions in places that cannot truly provide lasting help—some turn to people, money, fame, or connections. Unfortunately, these sources often fail and leave people more frustrated than they were before. The truth remains that human help is limited and conditional. Even those who genuinely want to help may not always have the capacity to do so.
Psalm 121 is a strong declaration of confidence in the sufficiency and faithfulness of God. The psalmist acknowledges the presence of mountains—symbolising trials or threats—but refuses to be intimidated. Instead of focusing on the size of the problem, he chooses to look upward to God, the Creator of heaven and earth. This upward gaze is an act of faith, a deliberate shift from fear to trust.
As believers, we must learn to turn our eyes away from earthly help and focus instead on divine assistance. God does not fail. He is not limited by time, space, or power. When you understand who your Helper is, your attitude toward life’s storms will change. You will realise that victory is not about your strength but about your connection to the One who holds all power.
1. GOD IS OUR UNFAILING SOURCE OF HELP
a) God is the Maker of Heaven and Earth.
God’s ability to help is rooted in His creative power. Since He made the heavens and the earth, there is no problem too complex for Him to solve. His resources are unlimited, and He is never taken by surprise.
b) Human Help is Limited and Unreliable.
Even the best of men can disappoint. They may lack the means, the will, or the time to assist. Trusting entirely in people will eventually lead to disappointment, but God’s help is always perfect and timely.
c) Divine Help Comes with Authority and Power.
God’s intervention is not subject to human systems or limitations. When He steps in, nature obeys, and protocols are suspended. Divine help carries undeniable authority.
d) God’s Help is Sustaining and Ongoing.
He is not a one-time Helper. His help is continuous, sustaining you through every season of life—whether in joy, sorrow, lack, or abundance.
Biblical Example: When Hagar was cast out into the wilderness with her son, it seemed like the end. But God showed up, opened her eyes to a well, and preserved both their lives (Genesis 21:14–19).
2. GOD IS OUR CONSTANT GUARDIAN
a) He Does Not Sleep or Slumber.
Unlike humans who require rest, our God watches over us every second of the day. There is no time when He is unaware or inactive concerning our situation.
b) He Guards You Against Known and Unknown Dangers.
God’s protection covers both what you can see and what you cannot see. While you sleep, He shields you from threats that could have taken your life.
c) His Protection is Not Seasonal.
God does not offer part-time security. His eyes are on His children at all times, in every location, under every circumstance.
d) He Preserves You from Natural and Supernatural Harm.
Whether it is physical, emotional, or spiritual harm, God stands as your Guardian, ensuring no evil overpowers you.
Biblical Example: While others slept, God kept Daniel safe in the lion’s den, preserving him from what should have devoured him (Daniel 6:21–22).
3. GOD PRESERVES YOUR LIFE FROM EVIL
a) He Delivers from All Kinds of Evil.
God is not selective in the types of evil He protects from. Whether it is sickness, disaster, accidents, or wicked plots, His power preserves His people.
b) Divine Preservation is a Covenant Benefit.
It is not random but part of the believer’s covenant package. He has promised to preserve those who trust in Him from generation to generation.
c) God’s Preservation is for Purpose.
He keeps you alive not just for comfort but so that you can fulfil destiny. His protection enables your assignment to be completed.
d) The Preservation of the Lord is Total.
It includes your spirit, soul, and body. God doesn’t just keep you alive; He keeps you whole and safe from breakdown.
Biblical Example: The Israelites in Goshen were untouched while Egypt suffered plagues. God's covering distinguished them (Exodus 8:22–23).
4. GOD'S HELP IS PERSONAL AND PRESENT
a) He Knows Your Name and Every Detail About You.
God’s help is not generic. He knows your exact situation, pain, and need. He addresses them with precision and love.
b) He is Ever-Present in Time of Trouble.
In your darkest hour, God is there. He does not distance Himself from your pain. He draws near and offers strength and solution.
c) He Answers When You Call.
The moment you cry out in faith, Heaven responds. God is not silent to the pleas of His children.
d) He Comes Through with Supernatural Speed.
What takes others years to achieve, God can do in a moment. His help accelerates results.
Biblical Example: When Peter was sinking, he cried, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately stretched out His hand and rescued him (Matthew 14:30–31).
5. GOD’S HELP BRINGS LASTING PEACE
a) Divine Help Does Not Bring Added Sorrow.
When God helps you, it comes with peace, joy, and fulfilment. Unlike worldly help, it doesn’t leave behind guilt or bondage.
b) His Help Produces Rest and Assurance.
You can lay your head at night knowing He is in control. His presence brings quietness to your soul.
c) His Help Terminates Long-standing Battles.
One word from God is enough to end years of pain and struggle. His help brings closure to stubborn issues.
d) God’s Help Will Cause You to Testify.
Every divine intervention is a platform for thanksgiving. It turns your story into a testimony that draws others to Christ.
Biblical Example: When Jehoshaphat and Judah cried to God, He gave them victory without lifting a sword, and they had rest on every side (2 Chronicles 20:22–30).
CONCLUSION:
In a world full of uncertainty, pressure, and danger, it is comforting to know that there is a Helper who never fails. Our help comes not from the government, people, or systems of this world—but from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. His help is timely, powerful, and transforming.
As you lift your eyes away from your problems and unto Him, expect to receive grace, strength, wisdom, protection, and supernatural intervention. Do not give up. The God who helped David, Daniel, and Jehoshaphat is your God too—and He will help you.

1. Father, thank You for being my ever-present help in time of need.
2. O Lord, deliver me from every visible and invisible danger threatening my destiny.
3. I receive supernatural help to overcome the mountains before me.
4. Father, preserve me and my family from all forms of evil.
5. Let Your help distinguish me in this generation, in Jesus’ name.
