Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” 1 Kings 17:2-4
And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. 1 Kings 17:7
God sends Elijah to Cherith Brook, a spring of water that dried up after sometime. It supported Elijah for a season, after that it dried up. God’s brooks, or provisions are not continuous or lifelong springs but rather seasonal streams. These are brooks or springs of water that meet our needs for a season. This is because God is the source, not the brook or the provision. If the brook or provision lasts a lifetime, God will not be our lifelong source but the brook. God does not want the brook to be our lifelong source; rather, He wants to be the lifelong source.
God is the source of the eternal springs of living water which never runs dry. The brooks may run dry, but God, the source of living water never runs dry. In season or out of season, the source of living water never runs dry. It’s an eternal spring of life gushing out of the Father’s heart, watering the entire earth. It’s always full of life and the life is abundant. The world may be experiencing a famine, but those who draw from God will be provided for.
His provisions, or brooks, serve as outlets for this living water. One brook can be closed, and another will be opened. But God is the eternal source of the living water. It is brimming with life and flows from eternity past into eternity future. It flows from generation to generation, season to season, from creation to millennium. It is rich in healing properties and can cleanse any type of sin. The living water has a source, and it’s at the Cross.
From the cross, the living water originates and flows, bringing life to everything along its way. Come to the Cross today and draw from the streams of living water for your needs and provisions. The worldly seasons has no effect on the person who draws from the streams of living water.
