Luke 23:33 (KJV)
33 And when they were come to the place,
which is called Calvary,
(A Mountain Called Calvary)
My brothers and sisters
There are many mountains that are mention in the Bible.
Theres a mountain call Mount Ararat where Noah landed when the flood was over.
A mountain called Mount Moriah, where Abraham offered his son Isaac.
There's a mountain called Mount Sinai where God reveal the ten commandments to Moses
Mount Pisgah where God showed Moses the promised land.
A mountain called Mount Nebo where God buried Moses and turned around and buried his grave.
A mountain called Mount Carmel where Elijah prays to God and God answers by fire.
A mountain called Mount Zion known as A Place that God Loves
A mountain called Mount Olive where Jesus went and prayed all the night long.
A mountain called Mount Hermon where Jesus was transfigured, and his divinity outshined his humanity.
But then there’s a mountain called Cavalry where Jesus died for the sins of the world.
Now all these mountains were important
But they all lead to a mountain called Calvary
Because Calvary goes above and beyond all other mountains.
Because Mount Calvary an unusual place,
*(1 point)
Because It`s a place that was prophesied by the prophets
In Isaiah 53:5
But he was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities:
The chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
*(2nd Point)
But not only was a place of prophecy.
But It also was a place that Jesus preached and teach about.
Because when you hear Jesus preaching and teaching ,
His sermons and teaching was about this place.
In John 3:14
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: —
Even when you go to Matthew 16:21
From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, and chief priests and scribes, and be killed , and be raised again the third day.
John 12:32
And I if I be lifted from the earth will draw men unto me.
*(3rd Point)
Well not only did The prophets prophesied about Calvary.
And Jesus teach preached about Calvary.
But it`s important to understand that God the Father planned this place call Calvary.
Because Revelation 13:8 reveals to us that
The son of man was slain before the foundation of the world.
Meaning that Calvary was no coincidence, or no accident.
In other words
God didn't wait until man had sinned and then started planning his salvation.
But The Sacredness of Calvary was in place before.
Adam got here
In other words all I’m trying to tell you is that
In the in the mind of God before Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
He already died at Calvary for the sins of the world.
I know that it’s difficult for human personality to be able to comprehend
And the reason why is
Because we have to cut time in the segments
We have to cut time up in the past, present, and future
Yesterday ,
Today
And tomorrow.
Because yesterday is a cancel check.
Tomorrow is a promissory note.
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is mystery.
In other words,_______________
Yesterday is a recollection.
Because with God Yesterday is now,
Tomorrow is now
Which suggest to us
That God never have to leave anywhere to get anywhere.
Because God is already everywhere
*(4th Point)
*Well not only did the prophets prophesied about this place called Calvary.
Not only did Jesus preach and teach about Calvary.
Not only did God the Father planned this place called calvary.
But I need to tell you that Calvary is a place of provision
Because the provision made at Calvary we`re provision for our salvation.
Because God knew that we was born in sin.
And that sin soils and spoils.
Sin chokes and provokes
Sin punishes and tarnishes
Scars and bars.
And God knew that we needed a plan of salvation and deliverance.
So Provision was made at this place called Calvary.
(5th point)
*Well not only did the prophets prophesied about this place called Calvary.
Not only did Jesus preach and teach about Calvary.
Not only did God the Father planned this place called calvary.
Not only was provision made at Calvary
But text before us reveals the pain Jesus endured at Calvary
Because Luke says there, they crucified Him
Because at Calvary Jesus experienced
Mental pain.
Social pain.
Physical pain.
And Spiritual pain.
Because if the truth be told
Nothing was a surprise to him.
Because He knew what he had to endure at Calvary
In other words
Jesus knew ahead of time what was getting ready to take place.
Because he lived in the shadow of the cross.
And everywhere he went, things reminded him of the cross
Every time he would work on wood, in Joseph carpenter shop
It would remind him of the old rugged cross that one day he would be hanging on.
Every time he would pick up a nail, it would remind him of the nails that would go through his hands.
Every time he would go into the garden and see roses and thorns it would remind him of the crown of thorns that one day would be upon his head.
Because he lived in the shadow of the cross.
That’s why important to understand that the death of Jesus was
Natural .
Unnatural
Preternatural .
As well supernatural.
You see ____________
It was natural because he died.
It was unnatural because he died without sin.
It was preternatural because it was predetermined.
It was supernatural because no man took his life.
He laid it down.
He suffered socially and mentally because the people that started out with him failed by the wayside.
You see, while he was at Calvary, the church has diminished down to five faithful members.
Because the only members that was there
Was His mother,
John.
Mary Magdalene.
Another Mary and Salome.
He suffered socially, and he suffered mentally,
But he also suffered physically
Because they took Jesus.
And it`s important to understand
That Jesus didn't have to go through what he went through.
But he says in the Matthew, chapter 26,
He said I could pray the father that he will send me at least twelve legions of angels.
Yet he went through what he went through because of his love for you and me .
He suffered physically.
Because they took a whip, platted it with pieces of metal, pieces of dried bones, pieces of glass,
And whip him
I said they whip Him
And everytime they hit Him with the whip pieces of flesh would come from his body.
And every lick he took was for you and me.
They put nails in the media muscle,
So it would deaden His hands.
And if the truth be told
What they was after was His hands.
Because Jesus hands had history.
Because with his hand he had touched the blind.
(They was able to see)
He touched dumb tongues
(And they were able to speak )
He touch deaf ears
(And they was able to hear)
And I need to remind each of you
This Easter Resurrection Morning
(Jesus still has power in His Hands)
*Well not only did they put nails in the media muscle of his hand
But they also put rivet in his feet
And pierce him in the side
He suffered physically,
*But he also suffered spiritually.
Because throughout eternity the Father and Son had never been separated.
That's why John 1:1 reveals to us
In the beginning was the word.
The word was with God
Which means the Father and Son, were always face to face
In other words
They never separated until Calvary
And just in case you forgot what separated them
It was my sin, and your sins
You see______________
sin always separates.
And at Calvary the Father had to turn his back on his own son.
Because of our Sins
And because of our sins
On a Mountain called Calvary- Jesus
Hung
Bleed
And died
They place him in a borrowed tomb
But i`m glad this Easter Resurrection Sunday Morning
That is not how the story ended
Because E-A-R-L-Y
I say EARLY
E-A-R-L-Y Sunday Morning
He got up with all power in his Hand
And because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth living because He lives
