“Fulfilling God’s Promise”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
4-20-2025
For those who have a relationship with our Saviour, this day is a very special celebration of the fulfilling of God’s promise to fallen man.
From the very beginning there was a plan for redemption of sinful man and on the cross that promise was completed.
The Gospel message is described in three actions; His Death, His Burial, and His Resurrection.
The Old Testament gave us the promise in over 300 different prophecies.
The entire Bible theme is about the coming Messiah and His redemption for us.
We say it in this manor; “The Old Testament Concealed and the New Testament Revealed.”
That is to say - the Old Testament declared a Messiah would come and the New Testament showed us WHO He is and what He did.
I. The Gospel Declared
1 Corinthians 15:1-2 “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.”
Gospel - to bring good news, to announce glad tidings
Used in the OT of any kind of good news of the joyful tidings of God’s kindness, in particular, of the Messianic blessings.
In the NT used especially of the glad tidings of the coming kingdom of God, and of the salvation to be obtained in it through Christ, and of what relates to this salvation.
Declare - to make known, become known, be recognized
Preached - to bring good news, to announce glad tidings, to instruct concerning the things that pertain to salvation.
By which also ye are saved,.... It was the means of their salvation, and had been made the power of God unto salvation to them.
Salvation is inseparably connected with true faith in Christ as a Saviour, and with a belief of his resurrection from the dead
II. The Gospel Delivered
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
Delivered - to deliver verbally, to deliver to one something to keep, use, take care of, manage
Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures - the writings of Moses, and the prophets, according to Scripture promises.
Psalm 22: 1-31 (this is the description of a man being crucified before that type of death was even used.)
Daniel 9:24 “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”
That he (Christ) was buried, (according to the scriptures) -
Psalm 16:10 “For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.”
Isaiah 53:9 “And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.”
That he (Christ) rose again the third day according to the scriptures: -
Hosea 6:2 “After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.”
Jonah 1:17 “Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.”
Matthew 12:40 “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”
III. The Gospel Distinguished
1 Corinthians 15:5-8 “And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.”
There are many teaching, as to what happened while Jesus was in the tomb:
1. Conspiracy by the Christians (stolen body)
2. There was no burial
3. The disciples were at the wrong tomb (when they came to the empty tomb they really went to the wrong tomb.)
4. The swoon (Jesus was not dead but sleeping)
5. Hallucination (all who saw Jesus after His resurrection were hallucinating.)
OR what the Bible says is true!!!!!
Matthew 28:6 “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
Mark 16:6 “And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.”
IV. The Gospel Draws
The evidence is so overwhelming that it must be either accepted or rejected by each person.
There is NO middle ground in this subject.
We are declared to be without hope or help without the intervention from God:
1 John 4:10 “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
We cannot save ourselves:
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 3:7 “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”
The choice has always been available:
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Conclusion:
What are the chances that Jesus could fulfill just eight (8) prophecies of the Bible?
Imagine Texas, 268,820 Square miles, filled 2 ft thick in silver dollars. In that filling there is one coin with a red dot:
Chance of just 8 prophecies fulfilled:
Blindfold one person and let them roam Texas as long as you want and when you reach down you pick one coin that was marked with a red dot. That is just 8 prophecies. When you add 32 more making it just 40 prophecies the number is beyond our calculations.
But Jesus did not fill 8 or even 40 prophecies, He filled over 300.
Ether Jesus is who the Bible said He is or it is all a lie.
There is no high pressure in this message, just the message “Jesus Saves.”
Do you know Jesus?
He is risen and sitting on the right hand of the FATHER and is waiting:
For some to call upon His name
For the time when He will come back for His children.
