Summary: This sermon talks about how seeking God first, His kingdom and His righteousness, leads to provision.

Life constantly tempts us to chase after many things — success, security, approval, comfort. Jesus knew this. In Matthew 6, He addresses our human anxiety about daily needs — food, clothing, and tomorrow. Then He drops a revolutionary command: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

The question is how? How does seeking God's kingdom lead to provision? Let’s talk about this step by step.

I. The Principle of First Things First

The key word is “first.” Jesus is not saying don’t care about your needs. He is saying reorder your priorities. When you put God at the center — above work, family, money, or even ministry — everything else finds its rightful place.

Illustration: Imagine your life as a jar. If you fill it with sand (worries, ambitions, distractions) first, there’s no room for the big rocks (God, family, purpose). But if you put the big rocks in first, the rest fits around them.

Application: Seeking God first isn’t a Sunday-only act. It’s a lifestyle — aligning every decision, relationship, and dream with God’s will.

II. The Kingdom Is Not a Place — It's a Way of Life

When Jesus talks about seeking the kingdom, He’s not talking about a place you go to when you die. He’s talking about God’s rule — right now — in your heart, your home, your community.

To seek the kingdom means:

To desire God's will more than your own.

To work for justice, peace, and love in the world.

To make decisions that reflect God's values — even when it costs you something.

“And His righteousness” means we pursue a life that reflects God’s character — holy, just, loving, truthful.

III. How All Things Are Added

So how are “all these things” added?

Your Needs Are Met by God’s Grace

When you prioritize God, He takes care of what you can’t control. Not always in the way you expect, but always in the way you need. God becomes your Provider, not just a backup plan.

Your Desires Begin to Change

The more you seek God, the more your heart is transformed. You begin to want what He wants. And when your desires align with His will, you experience contentment and peace — the “things” that money can’t buy.

You Experience the Fruit of Kingdom Living

Relationships are healed. Wisdom increases. Peace deepens. Joy multiplies.

These are not magical additions. They are natural outcomes of a kingdom-focused life.

Conclusion:

The world says, “Chase things, and maybe you’ll find meaning.”

Jesus says, “Chase Me, and everything else will follow.”

So the real question is not whether God will provide. The real question is: Are you seeking Him first?

Call to Action. Today, I invite you to re-evaluate your priorities. Is Jesus truly first? In your time, your money, your ambitions? Surrender those areas. Seek His kingdom and His righteousness — and trust Him to take care of the rest.
